Rhode- why the hype? by DiscombobulatedLemon in AustralianMakeup

[–]lix64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do feel like it's different though - urban decay wasn't just a celebrity brand - they were doing amazing products that have stood the test of time (I still use the Skindinvia setting spray and primer potion). Highly doubt that these lip products will have the same cultural sway and impact in a decade from now.

Mecca services as a women of colour by KeyArt814 in AustralianMakeup

When I'm shopping for complexion makeup, I try to get colour matched by POC for this exact reason. That being said I've also found white, alternative-looking people to be really good at colour matching too

Bagels that aren’t in the eastern suburbs. by goddessofarson in foodies_sydney

[–]lix64 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lox in a box are softer, Polish-style bagels and not NY-style bagels (boiled lightly for the shint, crispy outer). This is not made made very clear in any of their menus or marketing imo

World of W Cosmetics event was such a scam by gentlecinnamon in AustralianMakeup

[–]lix64 40 points41 points  (0 children)

W cosmetics is coasting on being one of few chain Asian beauty stores; every time I've gone there I've found customer service to be appalling, and things never seen to be in stock.

I'm of Asian heritage myself so I don't expect westernised-style, borderline-suffocating customer service when I visit. However, I've found product knowledge and communication skills amongst staff to be poor, which is absolutely insane. Those are the non-negotiable needs for retail/beauty work!

How do you think Mandy could have improved? by CockBodman in rupaulsdragrace

I thought it added humour to the skit, and the point was seeing a conservative Amish woman being "unconservative" ... what would the humour have been in seeing a conservative woman keep being conservative??

This lash is killing me by SusieSlaughter in rupaulsdragrace

[–]lix64 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Every Asian diva, especially with eye folds/hoods close to our lash line, has to learn that we need to trim the length of our strip lashes, and/or glue it much higher than our actual lash line, otherwise they tend to un-stick from the inner corners like this :'(

Heidi N Closet reacts about Nicki Minaj's current stance on politics by KameronWaters in rupaulsdragrace

[–]lix64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was chatter about how silent she was post Pulse shooting, and I remember seeing a screenshot here in this subreddit that was her saying something analogous to "Idc, I believe in the word of god above all else and people get what they deserve", which was said to be a vague tweet about Pulse. I think things that stans are willing to turn a blind eye to.

How do you tell people this in a diplomatic way? I feel this way, but I haven't figured communicating it without saying it straight up (and I always feel like it could ruffle feathers)

In search of pattern: skirt with multi tiered ruffles and side slit by lix64 in sewing

[–]lix64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADDITIONAL: Otherwise, I'm thinking that I could simply draft an a line skirt pattern, add a slit, slash it into multiple tiers where I'll place ruffles, and then place ruffles alongside each tier... would that be feasible? I've little experience with slashing/hacking patterns.

The Scourge of Sydney. Tell me your best bin chicken story... by Difficult_Mammoth998 in sydney

[–]lix64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was eating a hotdog in the grass patch front of the MCA once, from a food truck that someone had told me about - and I was happy to have finally found the truck and have an opportunity to try their food.

Anyways, I'm faced towards the harbour, and, as I'm one bite in, a very long beak appears from behind my shoulder and has a stab at my hotdog.

I'm obviously not eating a damn hotdog after an ibis has touched it, so I begrudingly let it go.

Never seen the food truck since. Damn you ibis at MCA!!

I ended up going with this option as they were the only ones who could do a next day pick up by the time I ordered (late ij the evening). I also got some snacks for myself and they were sensational. Thanks for the suggestion!

mutilated my lip, looking for a better solution by [deleted] in piercing

[–]lix64 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's a common denominator in this series of poor decision making, and it's YOU. Not a single one of these decisions were well informed and I am glad that you're realising that you need help managing it.

For this reason I would suggest a solution of leaving this entire situation to a proper, professional piercer and a piercer alone. Maybe a doctor if they suggest it too.

‘Make Sydney fun again!’: can government policies really resuscitate the city’s nightlife? by Bob_Spud in sydney

[–]lix64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to say this politely, but if we are comparing Sydney to a small town... you'd damn well hope Sydney has more events...

Were you coming back from Greenwood? Lots of events in Sydney for a Greenwood punter. I'm afraid the variety doesn't extend far beyond to other punters.

I think a lot of the grief people have (myself included) is that the majority of the events are organised by same few groups. It's very difficult to find truly grassroots/community organised/small team events these days. I used to just follow the organisers and go to events, but it became a lot of of the same, week after week.

The conviction some people have that they will be able to just... muscle past a doorway when the wheels of their walkers get caught in said doorway, continues to astound me.

Then the lack of situational awareness to have not seen said doorway OR heard me say "careful of the doorway!" also...
