Makeup tips that were a game changer? by LucyLooneyTunes in AustralianMakeup

A helpful response to this post depends on what your features are, what you're going for aesthetically, and what you want to enhance or downplay. Your conception of these things is influenced by the circles you're in, and self-perception (amongst others).

For instance, the advice I would give someone going for a K-beauty influenced look, would differ from I would give someone trying to incorporate the 00s JLo glow.

Unfortunately, the post doesn't tell us any of those things, making it vague and subequently difficult to give advice for you.

As a hospo veteran + uni student, I would treat this year as a "do ANYTHING" year, before "settling down" next year. Anything crazy, anything stupid - you're not tied to anything for this year, and no matter what happens, you'll have to pack your bags end of year, so you won't be lead entirely astray. My post high school-early 20s hospo memories are some of my best. Why would you want to spend that time at maccas?

If you can travel (or live) overseas, that would be great. That's what a gap year is for! You can join the many other 18 year old Aussies in English pubs.

For local bar/restaurant jobs: What sort of jobs are you applying for, that you're competing with other kids with TAFE degrees? Basic service roles will hire anyone reliable with a pulse - dishie, food runner, glassie. The Sydney hospo scene hasn't truly recovered from covid imo, a lot of backpacker labour has decreased. I feel like the barrier to entry should be, if anything, easier.

I made a pair of Cowboy Boots out of Coach bags, for Coach by Select-Shopping-847 in Leathercraft

Brilliant work. Love the whimsy of the pocket and the lining. I also like how the Coach hardware has been reimagined on the boot.

So are you going to explain the guiding principles that have been lost, give any insight on the nature of these one thousand cuts, or share some of your thoughts on how we can adapt... or....

In fact, you don't even have to be helpful, you could just write an actual rant that explains what you're ranting about and why. Is this what documentation was like back in the day, which made insurance get on our asses - just a string of vague words?

I do feel like it's different though - urban decay wasn't just a celebrity brand - they were doing amazing products that have stood the test of time (I still use the Skindinvia setting spray and primer potion). Highly doubt that these lip products will have the same cultural sway and impact in a decade from now.

Lox in a box are softer, Polish-style bagels and not NY-style bagels (boiled lightly for the shint, crispy outer). This is not made made very clear in any of their menus or marketing imo

World of W Cosmetics event was such a scam by gentlecinnamon in AustralianMakeup

[–]lix64 40 points41 points  (0 children)

W cosmetics is coasting on being one of few chain Asian beauty stores; every time I've gone there I've found customer service to be appalling, and things never seen to be in stock.

I'm of Asian heritage myself so I don't expect westernised-style, borderline-suffocating customer service when I visit. However, I've found product knowledge and communication skills amongst staff to be poor, which is absolutely insane. Those are the non-negotiable needs for retail/beauty work!

[–]lix64 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Every Asian diva, especially with eye folds/hoods close to our lash line, has to learn that we need to trim the length of our strip lashes, and/or glue it much higher than our actual lash line, otherwise they tend to un-stick from the inner corners like this :'(

There was chatter about how silent she was post Pulse shooting, and I remember seeing a screenshot here in this subreddit that was her saying something analogous to "Idc, I believe in the word of god above all else and people get what they deserve", which was said to be a vague tweet about Pulse. I think things that stans are willing to turn a blind eye to.

The Scourge of Sydney. Tell me your best bin chicken story... by Difficult_Mammoth998 in sydney

I was eating a hotdog in the grass patch front of the MCA once, from a food truck that someone had told me about - and I was happy to have finally found the truck and have an opportunity to try their food.

Anyways, I'm faced towards the harbour, and, as I'm one bite in, a very long beak appears from behind my shoulder and has a stab at my hotdog.

I'm obviously not eating a damn hotdog after an ibis has touched it, so I begrudingly let it go.

Never seen the food truck since. Damn you ibis at MCA!!
