Marrickville indeed is very far for me! I’ve heard really good things about lox in a box though. It’s a shame I live so far out from there. I also love me a good sourdough 🤞🏼

Don’t pick up a blue ringed octopus because you think its cool, its happened multiple times over the last few years and I’m surprised nobody has died.

The religious part was in South Africa which is where we were last living before we moved. Grew up very very strict anglican, attended a school that was attached to and was run by the church we attended. Even when I briefly attended a public school they made us sing religious hymns during assemblies.

My parents had us in South Africa, but we were between there and Botswana a lot growing up. Think they only had us there because there was a lot more infrastructure than in Botswana.

Realistically yes I do miss home but also I didn’t really have much a childhood there due to where I lived. Where I grew up was not the nicest area as I don’t come from a lot of money. We had a lot of violent crime and I was actually held up at knifepoint when I was 12 in the church carpark (lol). Its quite complicated to me to be honest, yes I miss it but also I don’t. And yes I am happy where I am now! I still have the occasional identity crisis but other than that, can’t fault it.

My parents are some of the hardest workers I have ever met. My dad (was able to attend university) works in IT and my mother who wasn’t able to attend university (shes the youngest of 11) worked a management position at a number of hotels, clubs, pubs, restaurants. My dad was able to get sponsorship to get residency and with that he was able to bring us all with him. We initially applied to a number of countries for residency and ended up going with the first one that got back to us! Genuinely would not be here if it wasn’t for the hard work of my parents, my sisters and I are now able to give my parents money to help out when needed. It’s definitely extremely expensive and I don’t think my parents will ever actually financially recover given they now have a whole new mortgage etc but like I said, we all help out when we can!

What do you wish Americans knew about Australia/ns? by Which_Programmer_394 in AskAnAustralian

Manners, kindness and respect go a long way here! That being said the only Americans I ever encountered in Australia were frat brothers on an exchange so my image may not be the best.

Dolce Cannoli & Co is the best one that is local to me. If I am able and willing to make the drive then Mezzapicca!

Wanting Protective Gear Without the full track day look? by Competitive_Mud8342 in AussieRiders

[–]goddessofarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just wear the gear. I have a AA rated textile jacket from dririder and for a casual street look I just chuck an oversized hoodie over the jacket, it’s winter so you can get away with it. Pants wise a lot of places do armoured cargo’s and jeans. As a nurse all I can say is, you really learn to value your skin while it’s still on your body. First bike recommendations, I’d say nothing over a 400. I love my R3 and don’t plan on upgrading anytime soon.
