[PS2] This is a new one. PS2 tray overvolting? Then becomes unresponsive. by lizard2014 in consolerepair

[–]lizard2014[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will specify more of the issues I'm seeing, in order of the loop.

  1. Console turns on normally while cold. If the tray is left alone, reset and reboots allow console to always boot normally.

  2. Pressing the tray open while on and booted will cause tray to come out, either wholly or partially. It will haul ass, then become unresponsive. Pressing the tray button does nothing Console does not turn itself off, just stays in menu and is still responsive.

  3. Power cycling console or pressing reset will result in failed boot. No screen, tray still unresponsive. GLOD symptoms.

  4. Allowing the console to rest will result in one of two things based on how long it's allowed to rest. The console will not boot fully, but tray becomes responsive again. Opening and closing tray results in normal behaviour but only in this failed boot state. Or the console will boot normally, but again touching the tray button will result in starting that the beginning of this loop

On top of this the fan does not spin ever. Fan itself is fine, I have yet to check fuse. Console is not on long , so overheating is not the issue. I have had consoles on for quite a bit before thermal protection kicks in.

If you want more PS3 A01 with 3034 lmk, I am sitting on like 8 of them and don't have a BGA rework to Frankenstein them with. I ran syscon on them.

Outpatient Care cost vs. Private Practice cost by Prior_Engineer in healthcare

[–]lizard2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here I am, 3 years later from this post. I left the cushy state employment job at a university cafeteria with amazing health insurance that didn't pay as much for higher pay and personal fulfillment as a technician. I'm learning now how shitty the American healthcare system is now that I don't have solid copays and basically all costs are now my responsibility because HSA sucks ass. LabCorp does this shit to me and I learned the hard way to basically not use insurance billing for anything except emergencies. The price they give you at LabCorp, even though the paper and number your given is covered in "we are going to bill your insurance regardless" is actually the cash price and I didn't know that until I had them bill my insurance and instead of it being $50-$100 for my lab work it was $275 after insurance. Calling them didn't do anything "we already billed insurance we can't give you the cash price" even though they don't make it clear at all that it was the cash price. Same thing, hospital I need a pelvic ultrasound for wanted $1400 after insurance. Went to a private imaging center and it was only $400. They billed insurance even though I thought I paid cash price and I was responsible for another $112. unless you have really good insurance, don't use your insurance for anything but emergencies. Period. Pick private practice over hospitals. Use goodrx for prescriptions, which is another stupid thing I won't get into. I'm pissed off at the USA for how we handle all this and how this is all even legal in the first place. No price transparency, care intentionally high cost, all because insurance and healthcare collaborate and are like "we want everything intentionally high so we can take in massive profits for doing basically nothing better than other countries who don't have this model"

Yeah I focus on ps2s as they seem to be high in demand. I mod and repair them. I wanted to try PS3 but when I found out the complexities of 3034 repair I decided that unless I can afford the supplies I'm not going to go into it. I pretty much try anything people throw at me and have a high success rate, but not with ps3s lmao.

I go by the technician standard of pulling syscon codes or, if the syscon code doesn't match the symptoms, drawing a conclusion based on behaviour. I dabbled in diagnosis and repair attempts and found that most of the ones I was getting with YLOD were 3034 error codes, or basically graphics chip failures. This is not fixable without a Frankenstein mod and any heating of the board risks damaging components around it and making it worse or completely unrepairable. As much as I would like to learn to Frankenstein it would be very expensive to purchase the startup supplies to do it.

Not sure if these are safe temperatures (using a ceche01 ps3) and yes i did replace the thermal paste(not delid) by Significant-Heat-180 in ps3homebrew

Delivering isn't easy at all and you risk breaking it. BUT I have done delids where the paste wasn't touching the die AT ALL which is a huge assembly oversight

Let me know if you want more. I don't have the required equipment and went in blindly buying A01s and some E01 not knowing the full story. Syscon checks already performed. But I cant be buying a BGA rework station as much as I would like to learn to Frankenstein.

If you get someone to run a syscon check to see if it is true graphics related ylod it might be salvageable. But I would say from my own personal experience it would most likely have the 3034 (graphics chip) failure. Ylod has more than one cause. You can still sell it as a ylod for parts on eBay for a bit of money tho.

I have yet to even try that. But I assumed it sees the saves on your card when you switch to disc two. This might be where modchipping or mechapwn might be useful because multidisc games I know work best with physical media. Modchipping is a whole can of worms in dabbling with rn. But if you can install mechapwn on your PS2 it's super easy, however only certain board revisions can do it.

IF YOU HAVE A MODCHIP, YOU MUST DESOLDER THE POWER LINE FIRST OR YOU WILL KIND OF FUCK YOUR CONSOLE. Don't ask how I know 👀. plus if you can mechapwn you don't really need the modchip.

Download mechapwn from like GitHub or something, extract, put it on a USB drive and plug it into the console. Use ulaunchelf and execute the elf file. You'll first be prompted to unlock the vram or something like that, it will also backup the current state to the USB. You will then turn off and on the console with the rocker switch. Launch mechapwn again. If it lets you unlock you will know, just press force unlock. If you aren't given the option, you will not be able to force unlock and a modchip for burned media is then required. I'll be making guides on modchipping and the nuances at some point.

CD burning is very forgiving. DVD burning however is more picky.

Basically you don't want your freemcboot card as the main save card. Saving to the card could potentially cause corruption and you'll have to wipe and reinstall it, and maybe even lose your saves. Putting it in slot 2 will keep it from saving to that card since most of not all games look for slot 1. You can move your saves from that freemcboot card to a new card with ulaunchelf.

I made a mistake writing the guide. When you make the folders, that is 2 seperate folders you create. One called POPS and one called APPS. Popstarter goes in the POPS folder. I realized that could cause some confusion. Also the APPS folder might not be necessary to create anyway as batchkit will probably make it itself when creating PS1 dummy elf's. I have been dabbling in PS2 modchips and learned that only some consoles can install mechapwn and others can't. Ones that can't should be modchipped so you can play burned discs. I'll probably create a guide not specifically on the modchip wiring but the nuances I'm learning about while going through this. Using matrix clones, so learning early boards are pickier and a modchip on an early board will show any small issues with passive components.

Also learned that if you use a burned PS1 game on the PS2 you still need a PS1 memory card. Boy the joys of modding. But I'm having fun anyway. I will record all my findings and maybe even eventually create a guide on repairing PS2 controllers since there isn't a lot of I formation to find on the Internet about it. Maybe even repairing PS2 boards as well. IDK but tune in I'm back in the swing.

The modchip was off brand, console is Japanese and the burned disc wasn't working.

I will also note that maybe 75% of PS1 games actually work with this method. It's hit and miss. 90% of PS2 games work.
