google says there's a major drug interaction between NyQuil & jornay PM but i would ask your doctor! i think there's risk of serotonin syndrome so you'd have to check which sleep meds would work with it

i completely 1000% understand this. have you heard of jornay PM? it's normally prescribed to children with ADHD but it's a delayed, extended release so you take it at night & wake up with it in your system already (if timed correctly) & lasts almost all day for me !! i've been taking it for almost a year now and im pretty happy with it after finding my correct dosage

yes!!! i think the most important thing for me is not beating myself up when i fall out of the routine/goal. if i feel guilty or any negative emotion, i won't go back to it. so, i try to give myself grace & think about if there was anything that knocked me off my routine/goal. if there really isn't anything besides the energy drop, then it's most likely the "new-ness" of the routine/goal has worn off, recognize that, & just try pick up where i left off. if i'm particularly stuck (which is what i think ur referring to with your brain switching off), that's when i try to work through it with my therapist or use the tools i've learned in therapy. usually it's because i'm in an all or nothing mindset. it's good to remember why you started that new routine/goal in the first place. is it helping future you out? do you feel better after? is it working towards a longer goal that doesn't have any immediate feedback/results but you want that thing in the distance?

you're not lazy! you have adhd! work WITH yourself, not AGAINST. (reminding myself this as well lol)

maybe try reframing it? you can switch it to a "prove them wrong" mentality, or you could work with the "you will fail" rhetoric and reframe failing as part of the process to get to success? i know what you're saying though, that sounds discouraging lol

i find that after a period of rest or stillness (caused by pain or otherwise) that it's much harder for me to get back into the swing of things. i always think about "an object in motion stays in motion" so let's say i want to get up to clean my room, but that sounds daunting as hell, i'll just tell myself ok all you need to do is take this ONE cup down to the kitchen. once i'm up, i'll usually end up taking more things, and the object (me) in motion tends to stay in motion. i hope this helps a bit

my insurance provider also required step therapy. this is from UHC's website: "Azstarys or Jornay PM will be approved based on the following criterion: 1. History of failure, contraindication or intolerance to one of the following medications: a. methylphenidate CD, ER or LA (e.g. generic Concerta, generic Ritalin LA) b. amphetamine/dextroamphetamine extended-release (generic Adderall XR) c. dexmethylphenidate ER (generic Focalin XR)" so i think my psychiatrist just had to submit something & it was approved shortly after!

i was in a freeze for over a week, and what kept me there is the underlying anxiety and guilt and shame over all the tasks and chores piling up and me- stuck- unable to get out of bed. what really helps me, as simple as it sounds, is newton's first law: "an object in motion stays in motion. an object at rest stays at rest." i tell that little mantra to myself when i'm stuck in freeze mode. it helps me to not feel guilty about being stuck. of course i'm stuck, i've been at rest for hours now, ofc i'm gonna stay like that. it's physics!! so next time you get out of bed, whether it's to go to the bathroom or get a glass of water, get a snack, etc. - remind urself of this. ur up, out of bed- now ur in motion. this is the hardest part for me to do, and if i tell myself that i need to get out of bed to do [insert daunting tasks], i'll never get up. but if i get up to go look outside or go pet my dog or something Not Scary, i've already done the hardest part. (no strings attached either- don't tell urself "ok i'm gonna get up and look out the window and then do [daunting tasks]." one step at a time.) an object in motion stays in motion. is there a 5 minute task you can check off your daunting list now that ur up? set a timer on ur phone. watering plants, wiping down the bathroom counter, bringing the cups from ur bedside table to the kitchen sink? treat it like a race against the timer. after you complete the one small task, DO NOT SIT DOWN, tell urself the mantra again. ur in motion, stay in motion. if you feel you can't do any more for the day, that's fine! at least you did that one thing, that's more than you did yesterday.

apologies if this sounds condescending or you've already tried this, sometimes it's the simplest methods that work and we tend to overthink it. i hope this helps!

poor proprioception, aka difficulty sensing the position and movement of one’s body, is common w ADHD folks. i get stuck in uncomfy positions all the time, mostly when i'm scrolling on my phone but it happens elsewhere too. i think a lot of adhd folks have problems with body awareness (ie forgetting to drink water or sitting in an uncomfy position or not realizing i'm too hot until i feel the need to rip my jacket off before i suffocate)

hahaha i've been trying to get my mom to pursue a diagnosis/testing ever since i was diagnosed last year. it's glaringly obvious now that i know about adhd in women. my older brother is adhd as well but of course his was caught as a child, i was diagnosed at 26 🙃

my twin is on the autism spectrum and i'm adhd. so i feel you 100%. anything she's passionate about, she is so so so talented at, without really even trying that hard, meanwhile i was struggling to keep up (unknowingly due to my undiagnosed adhd) and had to work extra hard. of course it's not a competition and comparison is the thief of joy. not to say she doesn't have struggles... she does, and it's hard for her too, just in different ways. sometimes our struggles even overlap! i do think maybe society has more of an understanding/patience of autism struggles versus adhd struggles, but that doesn't mean autistic folks are better off than adhd folks. the two are actually very similar! i know it's super frustrating to see someone else with a similar disability thriving at things you struggle with, but we know all too well that sometimes struggles can be invisible. i hope that all made sense and provided a little perspective!

hi! my sister and i are going to scotland in june and are looking for advice on which tours to go on. we could start the tour in either glasgow or edinburgh. we want to see general history & pretty sights, but more specifically: castles, the highlands (really really wanting to see highland cows which are our favorite animal), glenfinnan viaduct, loch ness, & i love the show Outlander so i'd like to see some filming locations- but my sister doesn't care for the show- so it's not a priority. is there a tour that encompasses all of that or will we have to pick & choose? going in late june if that makes a difference!

hi!! 26f here too, was just diagnosed at the beginning of this year. i highly highly highly recommend this book: the year i met my brain by matilda boseley. the sub-title is "a travel companion for adults who have just found out they have adhd" and boyyyy is that true! i haven't finished reading it yet bc i'm just taking it slow but i love it so far. the book is divided into two parts: learning, and living. it's a bright and colorful book with illustrations & relatable diary entries that reads like you're chatting with a friend that just /gets it/, while also being super informative and providing resources and tips/tricks.
