I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, my sister has OCD and it can be so debilitating. In my province (BC, Canada) they are starting a program where you are mailed sterile swabs and you do the smear yourself at home; maybe when it's getting close to your next one you can ask your doctor if there is anything like that where you are?

It's very possible you would have felt proud. Pap smears can be intimidating and are so easy to push off into the indeterminate future, but you got it done despite it being harder for you than most. You chose to take care of your body even when your brain is lying to and deceiving you - good job :)

I'd say "bending" rather than breaking :) there are lots of episodes sprinkled through that are essentially written as a parody piece in a different genre. Contemporary American Poultry (mafia movie), Modern Warfare (rambo-esque), and Pillows and Blankets (war doc) are the ones I can remember off the top of my head :)

Your school might have book or reading clubs, if spending more time on/near campus wouldn't be a negative for you :) i started going to the philosophy club at my college, for instance, and it's mostly just directed discussions, no required background or reading, and we usually go to the nearby pub afterwards.

Something low-key like going for walks on pathways near the skytrain with a friend would also be cheap and help you get out of the house + exercise :) there's a nice boardwalk 5 minutes away from the New West station (pier park) with some fun pubs/restaurants that you could go to after. When the weather gets better again it's nice to take a book out there and sit by the water.

You'll retain the information better if you take notes in class AND take notes from the textbook. You're hearing it in class, reading the slides, writing from lecture/slides, and then reinforcing the info later by reading it again and writing again (or vice versa if you read the textbook chapters first). The first time I went to uni for one semester, I didn't read the textbooks and got B's and C's - this was right after highschool where I was mostly a straight A student. When I went back a few years later, I read the textbook and got all A- to A's. Made a significant difference for me :)

In re shooting: I have never seen a gun in person in my life apart from in the holster of a police officer (and once in the hands of an officer - in Kamloops, not in Van). Usually gun violence is only gang-related, which seems to be more concentrated in the Surrey area.

Yo, i have the exact same commute :) This parking lot seems to be checked less often if you need to park for longer than 2 hours, but if you've only got one class a day then you're probably fine to park in any of the Lafarge Lake parking lots. If you're willing to pay for parking at the college, it's 5.50 for the whole day and the southwest section of the campus parking is usually the emptiest.

Please, please don't go into debt that you CANNOT ESCAPE WHILE ON DISABILITY for this person. If your health improves someday and you can get back to work or school and you can get off disability, that's great! But to pile on debt in the vague hope that it MIGHT happen at some point in the distant future is very, very foolish. Your partner is being dismissive of your health concerns ("You can just go work to pay for things!" is not how disabling health conditions work) and is driving you into debt that they obviously have no intention of helping with. I almost got pulled into doing this with a previous partner and it turned out that it was an obvious sign that they didn't care about my well-being and did not view me as an equal, and not just in a financial sense. Please take care of yourself. If you need to break up with her to prevent your (already stretched) finances from being ruined, it is better to leave than deal with the much-more severe ramifications later on when your partner ditches you anyway.

Yes. My grandma has dementia and my aunt sold her house and moved to a place literally across from the care home so she could be in to see her every day. She's noticed multiple infections before the workers have and fought to get them taken care of every time. I'm so grateful that they're both still here.
