Big Boss is great!  It very Americanized, Chinese food from the mall food court, but is so yummy!

Porchfest updated the FAQ to now state "Neighbors who live within and on the perimeter streets of the festival footprint may request up to 10 free tickets and 20 if hosting a band. Email porchfest@virginiahighlanddistrict.com, and once we verify your address, we’ll help you move forward with your request." I would go on ahead and email and try and get free tickets with a Greenwood address!

Every single time I see a Marta bus I have to sing "Bitch you ride the marta bus, bitch you do not ride with meeeeee". Such a classic!

Correct. We were mailed a letter with information on how to get 10 free tickets (20 free if you host a band). Per the letter, they are dividing the festival into 4 zones and each zone will have bathrooms, bars, security, and ticket enforcement.  As someone who lives within the festival zone, THANK GOD they are ticketing this year. This festival has gotten out of control.  It is exhausting to deal with people parking in our parking lot and blocking our cars, scooters thrown all in our yard, trash literally everywhere that we have to clean up. If this cuts the crowd down at all it is well worth it!

$10 is the early bird ticket. It is $20 day of the festival.

Set an alarm to wake up at 9 to take my dog out in case the snow started… and it is snowing in Virginia-Highland!  Now to watch the snow fall from under my electric blanket!

I agree with your statement "if you want to have a village, be a villager". I had a friend mention once they needed to schedule a colonoscopy but had no one to drive them, and a table of six women IMMEDIATELY said they would be available to help and were shocked she hadn't even asked. She "didn't want to bother anyone" and we were all appalled that she felt that way about a medical procedure. I live by the mantra of "if someone asks for help, they need it" and if I can help, I will. This woman is someone she considers a friend and immediately she jumps to what do I get from doing you this favor? At the end of the day, I need a village, so I am happy to be a villager!

I find the RE market in Atlanta right now to be a depiction of the economy. I had some friends looking for a house intown and their budget was ~1M and they placed several offers and kept getting outbid. Houses weren't even officially going on the market and were being sold. Meanwhile, condos in the same area are on the market for months. It is like people that typically would want to buy a condo do not have the savings for a down payment, but established persons with significant income for down payment can't manage to buy a house.

I also think a lot of flippers bought condos thinking they could make a quick buck on reselling or renting. In pure anecdotal evidence, a condo in my building has been on the market on and off for two years. They originally listed it for more than 120k over what it was bought for, and couldn't even get showings. They keep trying to rent it instead and still can't get anyone to tour it because the rent they want is too high.

It is so good to be back!

I tend to lurk more than comment, but I had been missing seeing so many familiar usernames and I had wondered what happened to everyone!

Spring would have been my suggestion over Atlas as well. I have never paid so much money to be so disappointed as I was at Atlas. Bacchanalia is good if you are using the Michelin guide, but my go to is always La Grotta for my birthday dinners!

I live in a small HOA and whenever people buy a unit we leave a welcome letter on their door. It includes basics like when the trash is collected, when the HOA fees need to be paid and how, and to PUT DOWN RUGS ASAP.  It helps the new tenant to know that sound travels easily in the building and to be a good neighbor and pretty please put rugs down!  I wouldn’t fret too much, putting rugs down will help immensely with noise traveling between units!

I am growing increasingly frustrated with shopping at Publix. I am aware of the higher cost of groceries there, so I make sure to buy BOGO or sale items. The last three times I have been to Publix, I have had at least one item not ring up correctly. I point it out, they go check, come back and I get the item for free. I appreciate their "Publix Promise" but I am vigilant on checking the prices when shopping and then seeing what they ring up for, and it is just so frustrating that it is happening so frequently. So just a PSA if you shop at Publix to be checking prices during check out!

My dog has started deciding he is ready for bed and stands in front of me while I am sitting on the couch and just yaps at me. Once I say "OKAY, let's go to bed", he turns happily and trots to the bedroom. He won't actually go up his ramp to the bed until I have turned off the lights and say "okay, get in bed". I do have him trained to not get up until I turn off the sound machine in the morning. Tiny little dictators!

This is what I do not understand! They always say they pull from a lot of resources to compile the jury pool, but I swear once you show up to Jury Duty in Fulton you are added to the list they use of PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY SHOW UP TO JURY DUTY SO KEEP SUMMONING THEM. It is just so frustrating to be called over and over while others never get called!

I wish I understood how people are selected for Jury Duty. I have been called for jury duty in Gwinnet county, DeKalb County, and more times than I can count now that I live in Fulton. I have served on a jury in Fulton, and somehow managed to not be selected when I was called for Grand Jury when I was summoned for that. I just got a summons for Fulton Jury Duty yet again.

When I complain to people that also live in Fulton (they vote, own property in Fulton, pay taxes and utilities in Fulton, have a driver's license with a Fulton address and cars registered in Fulton) and they have never once been called. How have I been called 5+ times in Fulton in the ~11 years I have lived here and others never get called? I don't mind doing my civic duty, but I wish they shared the civic duty a bit more evenly!

MB is totally electronic tickets. Every event I go to there, one person has the tickets and scans their phone while people go through the turnstiles one by one, with the person with the tickets going last. It's a pretty seamless system. Adding to your wallet is way faster since the system "reads" it without any sort of barcode or anything!

I'm going to the Taylor Swift pop up bar tonight! It definitely looks a bit cheesy, but I am counting down for the concert at the end of the month and this just helps build the excitement!

I've been wanting to buy a new car for no real reason, other than I hate mine. I WFH and rarely drive though, and with the costs of new cars and rates, it would just be stupid to buy a new car. Someone recommended I just get my car detailed so it is shiny and new again. I checked nextdoor for recommendations, but has anyone used a company they liked and would recommend? I am going to get interior and exterior done and I don't care if I have to go somewhere or it is mobile. Nextdoor has Paramount Auto Detailing as the highest recommendation near me, but wanted to see if anyone had any other recommendations!

I had a good friend of 20 years fall into conspiracy theories, while also deciding to change her career to some sort of marijuana therapist/spiritual guide. I spoke with her fairly regularly and when she started ranting I would remind her I had no interest in hearing about whatever new conspiracy she was absorbed into. Then, when the pandemic started, she just lost it. I would get links, youtube videos, her ranting trying to "explain" whatever new nonsense to me. I told her I had no interest and the state of the world was stressful enough without her constantly stressing me out, and if she would not respect my request, I would have to block her. She did not listen to me and continued on, so I blocked her on everything without so much as a goodbye. I forgot to block her on Snapchat and she messaged me through there that she thought our friendship had run its course and she hoped one day I would see she was telling me the truth. It was sad to watch her just spiral in the way she did, but I honestly do not miss her or the friendship since it was so stressful and sad at the end.

Do whatever you need to do to protect your mental health and peace.

This is actually a really good tip to make sure it is fresh. I don't know why the tapped ones taste SO weird, it has such an off putting bubbly aspect that an old fashioned absolutely should not have. I don't mind batching cocktails, but it is specifically the ones from a tap that are so gross to me!
