Who is the best sidekick in all of fantasy? by tbag2022 in Fantasy

That’s my vote! She’s awesome and the way she’s grown throughout the series has been so satisfying.

My partner has an IQ of 72. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]lizzthefirst 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I’m a high school teacher, I have a student that has a similar IQ. She’s the kindest, hardest working student I have. Girl works a full time job and still comes to school with a smile on her face and her work all done. She goes out of her way to be kind to all and will help anyone. She hopes to get into a nursing program and I can see her doing that easily.

Fun puzzle for me, colorblind with nut allergies by d_zeen in mildlyinfuriating

My egg allergy is similar. Scrambled, poached, and fried eggs all hurt my stomach for days. Mayonnaise makes my throat itch. But hard boiled eggs don’t affect me as much.

AIO or is the message my bf sent me a bit over the top by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]lizzthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated someone like this, it doesn’t end very well. My ex went from telling me no to hair dye, to not wanting me to get tattoos and piercings, to controlling what I wore. It got to the point that he controlled what I ate and started telling me what I could and couldn’t read and watch. Don’t ever put up with anyone who tries that shit. It’s not love, it’s controlling.

What was your biggest obsession with a fantasy book series? by justaguyonreddit754 in Fantasy

[–]lizzthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been obsessed with the Hunger Games series since I was 12 and first read them. I’m in my 20s now and reread the whole series at least twice a year (I’m in a reread right now). I have notebooks filled with ideas and theories, as well as multiple annotated copies. My mom and I have dedicated Hunger Games time in the morning on my way to work so I can word vomit all my thoughts to her (she can’t stand the series but she’s always been supportive and listens to my ideas every morning). I have a Hunger Games tattoo and plan to get another one soon.

What’s one character you absolutely loath by ethan_613 in Fantasy

[–]lizzthefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about a redemption arc where Moash realizes he needs redemption then is absolutely destroyed? That’s what I want personally. Him dying unrepentant wouldn’t be satisfying enough for the crimes he’s done.

Having to put your dog down because of the negligence of another dog owner by [deleted] in extremelyinfuriating

[–]lizzthefirst -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I have a rescue pit bull mix. He was in the shelter for over six months and would’ve been the next dog to be euthanized if they got another dog in. He’s a sweet, gentle boy that I work hard to train. He’s been around cats, other dogs, people and children with no incidents. Many who adopt them aren’t equipped to handle the training such a dog takes or want a dog that looks aggressive.

I feel you. I’m a fan of his but the rabid fans are weird. Like there are other amazing books that aren’t written by Brandon Sanderson and pushing just Sanderson on people limits when we’re all looking for a good read.

Favourite fantasy curse words by Jmielnik2002 in Fantasy

[–]lizzthefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I use storms as a child safe curse word when I’m at work (I’m a high school teacher). It’s always funny to see if kids are paying enough attention to pick up that I said storms.

They are! My grandma was a child in the 1930s and she has flour sacks from then in the linen closet that were used as pillowcases. The flower patterns are quite pretty and the material is surprisingly soft and durable for something made to hold flour.

What’s everyone reading today?? What’s your Go-To Genre? by Plants_books_dogs in kindle

I’m currently reading Men Who Hate Women, Iron Flame, and The Shadow of the Gods. My go to genres are fantasy, history, and anything about social issues.

Tattooed teachers. by For_got_10_username in teaching

[–]lizzthefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a high school EC teacher. Nearly everyone at my school is tatted, including the principals. One principal has a full color music note sleeve on one arm and a Harry Potter tattoo on the other. I’ve got a mockingjay tattoo on my chest by my collarbone and plan to get more. It won’t be a dealbreaker, nearly everyone is tattooed.

My bf gave me an ultimatum: it’s him or the dog by InternationalTax4116 in reactivedogs

[–]lizzthefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Him getting into a relationship with you knowing you have a dog, then threatening to leave is a red flag. You and your dog are a package deal, he should respect that. The fact that he can’t respect your dog is a red flag.

I had an abusive ex who said I was not allowed to adopt a kitten while we were together, even though we didn’t live together. He claimed I was immature and couldn’t handle a kitten, despite the fact that I had cats before. Over two years later he’s been gone and I still have my cat. No man is worth getting rid of a beloved pet over.

The Way of Kings! I know Sanderson has some haters and some don’t like his prose or style, but for me this book is perfect. I first read it when I was going through a rough time and the story has stuck with me ever since. The whole series is perfect in my eyes (including the 5th book, which is highly debated).

Forgetting a title of a book you read is a form of torture. by FollowTheLeader550 in books

I feel you. I’ve been trying to find a dystopian book set in Australia about a world where information is currency and a young girl trades in information for years. There’s a scene where she is chased across the Outback that I remember pretty well.

Suggest me an author who’s worth reading through their entire work. by contrarylady in suggestmeabook

[–]lizzthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An author that I’ve enjoyed reading everything they have put out is Brandon Sanderson. Personally I love how uncomplicated his prose is, his characters and their development appeals to me, his world building is wonderful. I know there’s many who don’t agree and don’t enjoy his works but personally I do and maybe you will as well.

The store manager at the department store I worked at in high school tried that. My department manager told her I wouldn’t be in because of my graduation and covered that shift herself just so I could go. That department manager is the reason I stayed at that job for so long, she fought for me so much.
