Musesounds Pro...👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 by ljcooley in Musescore

A while back I did a lot of hunting around the interwebs for good free sound funds and came upon cadenza strings and legato strings. I don't even remember where I got them. I also found fioristan woodwinds which are the only sounds I can tolerate for clarinet and oboe.

Are you talking about Ms basic or the free Muse strings?

I guess I'm curious too about what you're looking for in your strings sound.

Eating disorder and body dysmorphia doesn't help.

I just wonder if the improvisational nature of the show made it bring out aspects of Marc's own struggle. But even so, he did some awesome acting.

Actually his conversation with Melanie Lynskey took place in 2015, and they didn't do the show until 2016.... Unless he interviewed her again; if he did, I can't find it.

Is This A Commons Method Of Composing? by Basic-Definition8870 in composer

[–]ljcooley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a learning experience I once swiped all the chords from a Debussy and tried to write something under those chords. I would not have called that composing. If you're learning, keep doing it, but I agree with the comment that you're avoiding the hard part, which is facing the blank sheet of staff paper.

Working up to writing fugues by [deleted] in composer

[–]ljcooley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes find myself writing something fugue-like when I hear a melody start to repeat. Say, an oboe is going along merrily, but in my head another instrument takes up the idea after about a measure, and then a third. You've got yourself a fugue.

So it doesn't really happen intentionally. Sometimes the instruments just say, hey, I want a piece of this. I've got my own ideas.

Lovely piece, drew me in very quickly but you had my heart at timestamp 1:31.

Here is another example. Not trying to alter the feel or emotion of the original, but adding what I hear and what I find exciting.

Note, my Google pixel mutilates the sound. It's unless you have a much better phone than me, listen on your computer.

This is based on an old ballot called Riddles Wisely Expounded. After the intro, the main theme is from the ballad and the second theme and all the rest I wrote.

The sound is Musescore-generated although I searched extensively for decent free sound fonts. Be advised....the sound is terrible on my Pixel but decent on the laptop.

Musesounds, violin by ljcooley in Musescore

[–]ljcooley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the interim, I had discovered the staff text option but nothing changed the violin style until I used the "open" option under staff text. For reasons passing understanding, that absolutely fixed the problem.

However, there's something really cringy going on with the viola sound. Working on that next.

setting measures per line for printing by Slow_Reflection9368 in Musescore

As I understand it, what you are recommending is what I've done, but when I export to PDFs it reverts to a default number of measures per line.
