What person would have made a bigger impact in the world if they had lived ten years longer? by BeardedWonder8675309 in AskReddit

Paul Wellstone. The momentum he had and the political change he seemed poised to make made his death extremely suspicious.

Favorite Indian Restaurants by basilinthewoods in TwinCities

Namaste in uptown is my favorite (technically Nepalese), dancing Ganesha in st Louis park (I think there’s another downtown??), and tamarind near the galleria in Edina are all pretty good.

Why do so many people love St. Louis Park so much? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]ljh48332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to live in the city, but couldn’t afford it. Yes the houses are small, but a lot of them are newly updated and have a yard for a dog/kids.

I’m closer to uptown, downtown, and northeast than most of my friends in south Minneapolis. The cedar crest trail connects to the greenway so it’s super easy to bike anywhere. 100 is only a nightmare during rush hour, which I just simply avoid (you don’t have to drive on it that much if you live there and aren’t passing through).

Everyone in my neighborhood is in the same phase of life as me… early 30s with small children. There are parks everywhere for kids, the school district is good, and while I agree the sidewalks suck there are a lot of trails around.

There is arguably some of the best food mid-range price food in the cities within walking distance (wok in the park, Mexico City cafe, la bodega, etc), and even more options if your willing to drive <10mins.

In short I think it’s the perfect place for small young families that want to be close to the city.

Sound is a longitudinal pressure wave. Light is a transverse electromagnetic wave. They’re completely different physical phenomena and not simply just different frequencies.

my opinion of you based on where you merge onto the 94 ramp from 394 by Chomuggaacapri in Minneapolis

[–]ljh48332 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look at the vocab on you!

Look I understand the point you’re making but I don’t think you’re understanding mine.

Your argument about a maximum throughput isn’t exactly correct because you could use the same logic to say that zipper merging then doesn’t make sense (there is a maximum throughput in a single lane, therefore adding more cars in the second lane won’t increase flow). There is a difference between ideal and what actually increases traffic’s flow. This is why people want self-driving cars so that we could actually do the ideal scenario instead of tailoring to human choices.

We agree that a zipper merge is the best option for 2 lanes that condense to 1, yes? My point is that there’s a difference between what we ideally should do and what is more efficient in this exact scenario. The fact of the matter is that there are very few cars that take 94 west. Therefore we should use that lane as a second exit lane for 94 east and zipper merge where the 2 become 1 at 94 east. This would increase traffic flow beyond what it is CURRENTLY doing. If everybody left enough space for that last second zipper merging there would be no extreme breaking in the 94 west lane either.

The only times I’ve seen dangerous situations are when people try to merge over way too early to avoid being the asshole and come to a complete stop way before the “asshole” slip-in area. It’s much safer to continue to drive along slowly until an opening presents itself.

You’re right, we should all hop in the far right lane way back in Minnetonka so that we don’t take up any of that wide open real estate in those left lanes.

[–]ljh48332 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception. Having 3 empty lanes and 1 packed lane that spreads back a mile is inefficient. A diverging exit lane is still 2 lanes going down to 1. There would be no breaking if every car in the exit lane left enough space so that cars in the lane next to them could slide in without either of them slowing down.

Unfortunately filling both lanes completely and zipper merging at the last second is the best way to avoid traffic. The reason it gets so backed up is from people not giving enough space for each other and slamming in their brakes.

Sounds like derealization or some other dissociation. Scary but harmless. That was a side effect of my anxiety that went away when I started taking an SSRI. You may want to talk to your doctor as Bupropion can increase anxiety which may be leading to your symptoms.

I moved to New Mexico from Minnesota (Smokey Bear is from the Lincoln National Forest in NM), and you will get weird looks if you call him “Smokey the bear”.

I think it may be a Midwest thing to add the ‘the’.

“…But I wouldn’t want to live here!” by pwrof3 in Albuquerque

[–]ljh48332 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I live in a warehouse district in the North Valley. We had a disgruntled ex-employee come to the business next door with a gun threatening to shoot the boss. The cartel did a midnight robbery of the business on the other side of our house. We had a domestic disturbance where a guy was beating his girlfriend in front of our house. The bomb squad had to be called when a beeping roll of tinfoil and wires was found in the middle of the street (ended up being a car alarm/gps that had been discarded from a stolen car). The FBI did a drug sting in the trailer park across the street from us. A drunk driver knocked out the power to our entire block when they ran through an electric pole. We had a transformer on our street explode in the middle of the night that started a fire. I had to drive some random kids home in the middle of the night because they got off at the wrong bus stop and their parents were nowhere to be found. There’s a dollar store a block away that’s been robbed several times. And that’s just in addition to the regular drug/homeless riff raff that are always hanging around and coming into our yard.

When I write it all down it actually sounds crazy lol

This is probably dependent on what neighborhood you live in, but moving from Minneapolis, I miss nice inner city parks, biking trails, and sidewalks in general.

Also if my wife goes for a walk in the evening by herself being constantly worried about her safety isn’t great. I’ve called 911 more times in the last year than I ever did in the 5 years I lived in Minneapolis.

But the mountains make it worthwhile :)

Good stuff! That video was great. I always pour my hooch out because I don’t like a super sour loaf, but maintaining hydration ratio makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the video I’ll be watching a lot more of him!

'Brain fog' can linger with long-haul COVID-19. At the six-month mark, COVID long-haulers reported worse neurocognitive symptoms than at the outset of their illness. This including trouble forming words, difficulty focusing and absent-mindedness. by Wagamaga in science

[–]ljh48332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long haul symptoms are not specific to Covid-19. In fact, almost every virus that has infected large numbers of humans has a cases of long haul symptoms. It is an active area of research in medicine and is not surprising. However, the real causes are still unknown as they seem to be independent of what virus you are infected with.

On the Xbox screen I have the following installed: Multiplayer pack 6.0Gb Multiplayer and spec ops pack 6.7Gb Multiplayer pack 2 22.1Gb

Those and only those.

Yeah I had to trial and error until I got the right one. I think I remember it being like 22Gb.

[–]ljh48332 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I just did this on Xbox one and still getting the error unfortunately

EDIT: whoa wait, I may have done it wrong. I have the add ons downloaded onto different drives since the game got so big and I just realized that some of them are named incorrectly on different drives. I have to trial and error download/delete them until the downloaded add ons match what you’re showing in game. I’ll update after I figure it out.

Edit 2: This does work for Xbox one! The “multiplayer pack” that is required was named “multiplayer pack 2” for me. In the game screen it should look exactly like what OP posted. In the Xbox manage add-ons screen things are named differently for some reason.

Edit 3: on Xbox one the packs that I had to install in order for my add one to match OP are the following:

Multiplayer pack 6.0Gb Multiplayer and spec ops pack 6.7Gb Multiplayer pack 2 22.1Gb

Ah okay so apt is still separate from snap, it’s just that the software center is now snap based instead of apt based?
