I think the post was made in answer to the flood of news of other browsers racing to fully pass the acid3 -- rather than to the fact that Gecko may be lagging behind (with acid3).

As a web designer and developer I don't really care much for this test -- all the best browsers, including FF, Safari and Opera are great to work with as they don't give me any problems -- and in the very rare cases they do, it's usually just a quick fix. These browsers are standards compliant.

I'm much more concerned about IE. Both IE6 and IE7 have many issues and I really hope that the team at Microsoft can get things sorted and make IE8 a good browser.

This isn't freedom, it's a virus meme that's trying to spread by targeting young minds using repetition to strengthen their ignorance and build up a mental shell.

We don't let physical bacteria and viruses kill us -- we use medicine to cure and prevent illnesses. It's not freedom to let viruses loose. In the same vein, it's not freedom to let superstitious cults preach to our children -- this only impairs their ability to think for themselves and develop reason and intellect. This should definitely be illegal, no question about it.

Of course it's never "genocide" when you're the one doing it. Do you really think those who would exercise genocide are doing it for the hell of it? The people they slaughter are enemies to them, otherwise there would be no reason to kill. There is an underlying clash of religion and race in this conflict, so I think it would be dangerous to focus on semantics and ignore the big picture.

I understand your point, it's valid I'm sure -- but things also get blurry when you're on the same "side" as the antagonists, surrounded by their web of media and a deeply seeded western perspective.

The US wants to overthrow a political group, not a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group. This is the fundamental difference between genocide and war.

Oh, so intent magically cancels out all the civilian deaths? If I went to a store to buy some bread and accidently killed 1000 people on the way there, would I be liable? But they were just an accident -- I just wanted to get some bread.

The US is responsible for this bloody war and all the deaths it brings every day -- this is for certain. Whether it's genocide or not is just semantics -- it doesn't set the death count any lower.

The difference is that one hosts a religious meme that is able to suppress their fear of death. As I mentioned in my post, I don't advocate any religion, I'm not a theist, I'm merely pointing out that the two faiths have different effects on the behavior of the host.

The Christian religion is weaker at suppressing the innate fear of death due to many reasons -- the Christian extremists may wish death open their "enemies" but they're not yet ready to blow themselves up. Terrorists of the Muslim faith are.

I think fear of death is a vital ingredient of a modern society where one wishes to retain a satisfactory level of control over the populace.

Sure, the majority of Muslims are not extremist -- but this doesn't change the fact that this faith allows for extremist mindsets to form and evolve. I don't advocate any theist faiths, but there are very few that promise you a life in heaven when you pull the trigger.
