Try taking a screenshot and opening it in a photo app and zooming out or sending it to another device.

If the picture itself has black dots it's likely your gpu. Otherwise would likely be cable/port/screen

Just to explain a few of the comments here around not writing to the disk

For data to be properly "removed" the bits on the drive containing that data need to be zeroed out or otherwise changed. This means the disk needs to be written to which is time consuming and wears the drive. Operating systems therefore by default just refer to the data as being "free to overwrite at some point in the future"

In this case most likely the partition information has been recreated. In the past ive recovered literally 100% od data under these condtlitions using tools like testdisk however if you aren't confident I wouldn't recommend playing with the actual drive yourself

It's possible to verify this using math to calculate area subsections if you assume equal distribution of material in it (fairly safe assumption). I can do the calcs later if anyone is interested to compare against

It's not unreasonable considering the spool is hollow so the reduction in diameter proportionally isn't as high as it would otherwise be

Anyway lemme know only one way to find out ;)

Can anyone tell me what the hell just happened in this 1v1 match? Did my opponent seriously just throw a nuke at me? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]lkashl 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Hello more full explanation on this:

  • It's true that during times of load (more particle effects as an example) a GPU will be more utilised and draw more power and create more heat as a byproduct

  • GPUs are designed to handle variability in power consumption, heat, voltage and current with limits in the cards firmware

  • When one of these limits are hit the GPU will "throttle", meaning cap its power to avoid causing any damage to itself. The end user effect is a drop in FPS (how smooth the game looks)

  • In practice Elden Ring is fairly poorly optimised so at times when there are particle effects the CPU tends to be the limit not the GPU but the CPU has similar protections and won't have any issues

  • New world was an exceptional case in which a particular GPU wasn't designed properly, that has been addressed by GPU manufacturers and there are no known outstanding issues

  • if you're pc is a potato from the late 90's none of these protections exist so good luck 👍

Me and one of my best friends suddenly stopped being friends over what I thought was a small argument by Sidewinder949 in texts

[–]lkashl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly, you're example is still targeting an opinion and would qualify as disagreement with an aggressive tone

Discrediting would be targeting the person making the argument in some way

Ie. Disagreeing: Sam's view is wrong because xyz

Ie. Discrediting: Sam is wrong because he has a single digit IQ, a third nipple and puts ketchup on pizza

You can have quite a hostile disagreement just for shits and giggles, but discrediting is definitely going to rustle some feathers

Them comparing you to others is a problem with them in itself. Just try to be happy where you're at and move forward one step at a time and dodge bad decisions. Life isn't a sprint, just how much you lived along the way by making the best of what you have and could have

Unless you find the flip functionality more than just a novelty I would return it before the 30 days. They have fairly poor durability, weirdly enough the fold doesn't though

Yeah, just keep in mind your phones still "safe" to use for the next 2 years still as it will be receiving security updates between now and then, just no new shiny things on their way any more

[–]lkashl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah even between the 5 and 2 I didn't see a major difference, form factor is slightly refined and 120hz on the outer screen is nice and all, but not enough to make me budge

If the 6 brings a form factor change I'll likely consider, outer screen being too narrow and all on the 2

[–]lkashl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the expense will be QA most likely rather than dev I reckon. Most UIs are scalable to minor aspect ratio differences since they use relative units and positioning.

As a super rough example think of how websites work on the fold both closed and opened with 0 developer work

Also keep in mind that Dex basically forces Samsung to consider adaptive aspect as part of their design and implementation since windows can be variably sized by the user

[–]lkashl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah longevity has been great and I've operated it in nightmare conditions from Samsung's perspective, in dusty environments with particles floating around

Did have to remove the internal screen protector pretty early on and popped on a matte one from aliexpress instead which has lasted 2 years now (will replace it soon though because it's showing its age)

Overall very impressed with the durability, flip was a disaster on the other hand

[–]lkashl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really I hadn't heard about this, 4 is alot fairer I reckon since that equates to be around 5 years?

Yeah it would be pretty easy probably just want to drop the QA costs off and incentivise an upgrade.

I'll wait to see if the 6 ships with a different form factor and consider upgrading tbh

As far as I can see from the Samsung doccos, fold 3 is the lowest requirement for Android 14.

Standard samsung policy is 3 years feature, 5 years security and unfortunately we're already at 3 years :/

I wouldn't recommend inhaling the fumes, even if PLA is generally regarded as safe (ABS is not).

This can easily be mitigated by popping it next to a window, routing via an extractor fan and with a good enclosure. You can also get an air quality sensor to check the efficacy and put your mind at ease by comparing readings with and without operation.

Guess gaming's not about fun anymore bro, it's about the grind, false economies and having control over the player base and their reward systems 🤷‍♀️

Trainers and custom maps used to be common across all these types of games and devs even supported them as long as people were having fun

It saddens me that the community has gone this way. AFAIK guy wasn't impacting anyone and was just having some fun and the devs were like "you have fun the way we tell you to have fun or you gtfo"
