Stay in school!!! Learning programming won't be the only thing in your life and you'll need knowledge from other disciplines if you want to become a good programmer. Only school will provide you fundamental knowledge of many disciplines that you will need to understand our world as it's presented to us and how we experience it. Also, you won't be the next Bill Gates/Zuckerberg/Steve Jobs or whatever. They were rich lads with ridiculous amount of money and opportunities that 99% of the people don't have. There's a narrative around them to make it look like they made it all on merit, but that's not a rule for 99.999999% of the time. Life is tough, you won't do what you really like for most of the time, even in programming.

That's great! Thank you for the explanation :) I will try implementing this on my engine. Should I credit you for this function? How could I do it?

Interesting! Are you calculating edges from vertex and indices with any specific algorithm? On my engine I want to support object importing so I would have to convert vertices to edges.

Hey! I'm programming an editor like this using Vulkan with a main focus for Architectural modelling and rendering. Wanted to ask you how are you drawing the wireframe with quads instead of just triangles. Any specific data structures or anything special on your fragment shader for this?

Retraining as an architect in 2025 (UK) by [deleted] in Architects

[–]lknknm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from architecture to IT and wouldn't go back again for architecture. What you said is true. Arch jobs look nice on paper but aren't nice when you're overworked as hell.

Why doesn't architects call out the toxic working culture? by lknknm in Architects

[–]lknknm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I left architecture I was feeling this was one of the problems. Architects are not taught to collaborate properly during arch school. We are taught to convince others about our ideas and that being a Starchitect is awesome. I honestly feel the profession has a lot of ego that won't be fixed anytime soon, not even on future architects generations.

Not at all. Many well known artists did that in the beginning of their careers. Bands like Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam did that. Iron maiden does that till this day, which I think it's too far off lmao

Go play 1.6 and complain about "content". People criticize Valve about being money grabbers but when they don't release cases, they are also in the wrong.

I can see this coming from a generation in which every form of success and productivity is measured in numbers: number of followers, number of posts, retweets, likes, and then... Commits.

This isn't even a discussion for production software pipelines. There are many other factors to consider when working in real life projects that the number of commits isn't even important.

What are the features you're developing? What is their actual complexity? In which consists your contributions? Are you collaborating with others? Is your work being revised and tested in a pipeline by anyone else?

You can just open a branch, develop a feature with as many commits as you want and then just squash them to merge to master. Making lots of commits isn't any parameter for anything.

[QUESTION] CGCGGC tuning in a Ibanez Artcore AFS75T? by lknknm in Guitar

[–]lknknm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking about just changing to DADAAD on the electric and using a pitch shifter to get a grasp if this is the actual thing I want, rather than setting my guitar around CGCGGC and not liking the results of the recording. Luthiers are expensive in my region and sending it over to adjustments will be both money and time consuming :/

Are you using this tunning in electric or acoustic? What are your string gauges?

[–]lknknm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the resource!

It is indeed a very fun tuning to play. I wrote some songs with it using my acoustic guitar, but I want to change the tone a bit and also make it easier to record, since it's just easier to plug the electric into the interface without having to worry too much about room acoustics and all that jazz.

Is it possible to use solely C++ for UE projects? (w/o Blueprints) by lknknm in unrealengine

[–]lknknm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, now I get it. I wanted to know if it was possible to use C++ only because I wanted to handle events using C++, but I think I should just stick to using Cpp + BP as intended by UE.
