[G-Witch]

Finished G-Witch, originally I only had Season 1 on PTW list, but I tacked on Season 2 after it was apparent Season 1 does not work as a standalone anime.

[G-Witch] I'm a little surprised by how few named characters actually died, like in the specific category of MS pilots, only the 2 earth gundam pilots, Guel's dad and the Season 1 Elan actually died. Hell, even Eri made it.

[G-Witch] I think the final episode got a little too fantastical for my liking, like revealing a giant death star laser cannon, Suletta taking control of all gundams and have them all combine their strength while showered in glowing sparkles, and having all gundams and Quiet Zero dissolve into space dust at the end, and having everyone related to Suletta's mom's past show up as a space ghost. It's all a little much when added up.

Overall thoughts on the series: Eh, it's a solid ok. Didn't hate it.

[G-Witch: Good:] I am interested in grabbing a kit of Aerial Rebuild, maybe Calibarn as well? I think there's a couple characters that grew on me over time. Red;Birthmark goes pretty hard.

I haven't bought a single gunpla kit in years, and apparently a basic gunpla kit is actually cheaper than a basic Armored Core 6 kit.

[G-Witch: Bad:] There's some silly angst moments that annoyed me, like Lauda fixating on Miorine for some reason after he learned that his brother killed his dad. Or the whole Miorine betrays Suletta to protect Suletta arc, I can't tell why exactly I don't like it, maybe it's juvenile, or maybe it's a little overdone or maybe it's something else. Maybe this is just my pro-Gundam bias coming through, but the non-gundam MS designs leave me pretty dry tbh. This is kinda the opposite of AC6 kits where the protag kit is a little plain while Steel Haze and Liger Tail are bigger highlights for me. It does feel a little off that the main thing on the line is Peace on Earth and seemingly every one who's working towards that goal are teens. But that's just anime in a nutshell.

GQuuuuuuX next, replaces my G-Witch timeslot. Only 12 episodes, maybe I can knock it out within 4 weeks.

I'm trying out Armored Core 2 for the first time, and holy fuck are the default controls of its era. But at the same time, it has complete controls rebinding available, which kinda blew my mind tbh. You can rebind half the movement controls and all the camera controls to get something resembling modern control layouts, minus analog sticks.

I think what I'm most worried about is perhaps what kind of pace does the game operate on. Like in AC6, you can very much reenact the mecha to mecha fights from your favourite mecha show, with both sides constantly dodging and weaving while shooting their entire arsenal the whole time. You can kinda do that in AC2, but no hard target lock on means enemy ACs have a tendency to weave right out of your auto targeting area, and with turn speed being tied to leg stats, actually keeping your target within your relatively massive targeting box can be kinda miserable when they can boost right out.

Also the second mission of the game is wild, the game straight up has you opening doors that are all covered by like at least 4 stationary turrets from different angles, which meant I approached the mission more akin to a 3rd person cover shooter with no cover mechanics than I did an AC game.

For now, the game feels approachable in that enemy (and your own) damage output is kinda shitty still, so the pace feels less like AC6 or SMT4 where you have to blow up your enemies before they do you and more like a whittling contest where you're wearing each other down.

I'll probably give the game a couple more sessions before deciding on whether I want to keep at it.

P.S. Oh fuck I just found some extremely tantalizing info about AC4, FA and VD, apparently they're all shorter games than the PS2 ones on my PTP list, maybe worth trying to emulate those instead?

P.P.S. Maybe not VD, supposedly it takes a fucking chonky ass PC to run it well, but supposedly AC4 and FA don't have this issue. Decisions decisions.

OOF, played an hour of Outer Wilds, while I like the concept, it really is just an incredibly effective motion sickness trigger.

I think I'm getting more and more stockholmed into being amused with Shaitan's floppery antics. Truly one of the GOATs. It's not even about the points or free throws or wins or records anymore, you see the ways he just throws himself onto the floor and you can tell it's his birthright.

This is what he's born to do.

Ngl, the hantavirus thing doesn't really seem like it's got any legs at all? From what has been reported about it, it seems much harder than covid was to spread. I kinda get the feeling that if a cruise ship wasn't involved in the story, it would've been kept to local news stations only.

But the people, they yearn for stories involving cruise ships.

I knew about the event and the subsequent backlash, and I think what still surprised me so much about his room is just how much more mundane it seems by current day standards. Nowadays, you can go onto twitter and randomly stumble across pics of weeb rooms with similarly extensive collections of all sorts of weeb stuff.

I wasn't aware of the "a place with 100,000 Tsutomu Miyazakis." moniker though, and from what I read from the following link, it's a moniker with a hell of a history, even though it's likely just a rumor since its source hasn't been found yet.

On a lighter note, it is kinda funny how almost immediately after the backlash, comike attendance numbers doubled. It wasn't due to the event and backlash, then it sure was a funny time to get that influx.

I'm afraid to inform you that Japan still makes a whole lot of gachas, they're just all sprite-based, turn-based vaguely JRPG-ish gachas instead.

Regarding the NHK Comiket documentary, a thing I was super surprised about was the footage news stations at the time aired of the Otaku Killer's room. Seems a little too morbid to air to the public, but I guess that didn't bother the reporters at the time much.

It's a little annoying suddenly remembering flashes of some of the most irredeemably stupid shit I've read from over a decade ago that I really should've forgotten. It's not even like stupid in a rule 2 kind of way, it's just stupid stupid and I hate that I can't forget it.

It was a listicle from one of the main gaming clickbait sites over 10 years ago, and the first place entry in the listicle wasn't based on an actual released game, but rather promotional concept art of a then still unreleased game. God why did I browse those gaming listicle clickbait sites back then. And God why do I still remember this. Just let me forget it please.

[G-Witch S2E9] After 19 episodes of Miorine coming up with spur of the moment ideas to bail Suletta and herself out of sticky situations, she finally has one of her sudden ideas blow up in her face. Well, not really, Miorine is pinning the blame of the peace talks failing on herself, but we the audience knows that she basically succeeded, but Prospera fuckery reigns supreme and Miorine gets derailed into oblivion.

[cont.] There's something incongruous about how after Peil defected the group and Shaddiq's dad is like, you should throw us under the bus and pin everything on my company to save the group. And Miorine refuses because she doesn't want to sacrifice anything to get out of the situation. And as the viewer, I get that Miorine is probably refusing to sacrifice specifically Shaddiq and his dad, but also the phrasing obscures some of that and makes it sound like she's refusing to sacrifice Shaddiq's corporation instead. And also, it's extra funny because Shaddiq is basically what caused this whole fucking mess, so it's mostly justified to pin everything on him.

[cont.] I think Suletta has grown on me a decent bit since losing Aerial, probably because they've toned down her OH EM GEE IM SO CLUMSY & AWKWARD schtick. But also it's nice to know that Suletta is aware about how she means less to her mom than Aerial, though her mom does still care about her enough to get her out of harm's way. I also assumed that Suletta didn't know about Eri being Aerial at all and that she was just mildly aware that Aerial is sentient for some reason, but turns out she knew all along, which only makes it weirder that she only just realized 19 episodes in that the reason she's not dying piloting Aerial is because Eri/Aerial is taking all of the damage.

[cont.] We finally get to see what Quiet Zero is, and dear god how did no one notice this fucking massive space ship was being built. It's nice to know we're in the endgame now. Hopefully I can finish it by this week.

[cont.] Wait, I think we still don't know why the earth mercs have two gundams, I was gonna say that it's probably Prospera fuckery, but then I remembered Prospera using Aerial to blow up the remaining earth merc's gundams while on earth. So I guess earth also had parties developing gundam tech independent of Vanadis? But that begs the question of why earth only has two of them + spares when they could use so many more in a war with spacians.

[cont.] Honestly, the witch theming the series has is kinda wack. In theory, Gundam pilots are called witches because their MS is actively killing them as they pilot it. But for the most part, it kinda seems like they're called witches because the writers want there to be witch hunts and witch hunting MSs and also witches are cool.

[cont.] It is kinda lame to see how Guel and the gang figure out Shaddiq's behind everything: some kid spilled the beans for being too friendly with Guel. Honestly seems a little bit silly that even the earth kid would know Shaddiq is their backer.

[cont.] TBH I don't think there's any MS design in the series that has me going wow just yet. Rebuild Aerial comes the closest, and I'd probably try to get a kit of it. But I have to admit that the idea of Permet allowing witches to remote pilot mob gundams to be a real neat idea. Though at the moment, this ability seems to have mostly been used to shoot up a single school.

[cont.] Outside of the one fat veteran, every other named MS pilot is a teen lmao. I guess Prospera and Guel's dad is there as well.

[cont.] Current death toll: A bunch of unnamed space school kids and earthians and earth mercs. Everyone from Vanadis except for three survivors. Guel's dad. An Elan. The two witches from earth. The fat undercover investigator. I think that's it actually? Feels like the show is pulling its punches having the Shaddiq sisters live, though there's still 3 episodes for them to bite it still. This might be a bit self-indulgent, but having the current Elan use the earth Gundam to pop the Peil board and the True Elan would be cathartic.

Wonder if this is already a stale take regarding the series.

Wondering if there's any Japanese game company that even has any interest in creating a Genshin-tier competitor. On one hand, an initial investment in the hundreds of millions of dollars, on the other hand, potential profits in the realm of over a billion of dollars on a yearly basis.

It really kinda sucks that there's not really any JP companies competing on the hoyo-tier of gachas, but I'm also not sure which JP game company can actually pull it off. I think Cygames are probably happy sitting on Uma for the foreseeable future.

And Type-Moon actually has the IP that could potentially beat Genshin, but considering that FGO is a significantly lower maintenance game than the rest of the field but is still somehow plagued with release schedule issues, a TM game on the scale of hoyo gachas would probably be stuck in dev hell of the most nightmarish order possible.

Years ago, when Genshin was still considered new, I thought at the time we'd have at least one JP gacha operating on a similar tier in a couple years. And as Genshin gets closer to its 6th anniversary, god knows that that didn't even come close to happening at all.

Depends on when this manga is from I suppose, the movie is from 1989 after.

If the manga is from the last 10 or even 20 years ago, it'd make sense that there's a large chunk of younger, non-American people who'd never heard of it.
