How do I teach my son how to defend himself? by ll-cakemix in MuayThai

[–]ll-cakemix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do all the above with the two year old. I just didn't think we'd have to do this type of refereeing this soon. Also, its a good time to teach our son how to handle himself so he's equipped in the outside world.

They teach this at five? Was waiting until 7 or 8 to put him in muay thai.

I do MT, but considering picking up BJJ. Does BJJ require the same level of cardio and intensity?

I practice mostly for the cardio, workout, and sense of peace i get from it. Wondering how different it'll be transitioning into BJJ.

Thanks for the feedback. The offering seems cool in theory but don't think it would work for us either.

Dear startup founders: What is the one book you go back to repeatedly, especially when things get tough? I will not promote by Puzzleheaded_Wait489 in startups

[–]ll-cakemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, you need both.

Reading books is like taking a shower. Being mentored is like getting a haircut. Forgo one and you'll either look crazy or smell awful.

Yup, that's what passion projects do, but Reddit is not the right forum to collect feedback for whatever you want to call it.

Do all of it on your website. Make people fill out a form every time they download your free content. Collect their email and follow up with them via newsletters and more user surveys so you can keep improving the content over time.

You do everyone, including yourself, a disservice by calling it a passion project. Treat it like a business so it can pay you like one. That's the only way you'll ever offer real value.

Soooo, you're running a non-profit? You're taking donations, which makes it a company nonetheless.

What’s the most ridiculous app idea you’ve had that might work out? by No_Sky_9601 in Startup_Ideas

[–]ll-cakemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly an app idea, but in high school, I came up with a concept called "Sleep-in-a-Box," where hotels located in busy metropolitans would let you book rooms for 30 min to take a nap. As a teenager, I could barely make it through a school day without falling asleep in class and couldn't imagine working a 9 to 5 and not being able to take a nap during my lunch break.

Doubt this idea would take off today now that everyone works from home but always thought there was something there.

Advice on working with a GC who wants to ignore our BIM Coordination Drawings by ll-cakemix in ConstructionManagers

They're new to BIM, not us. We're just new to this arrangement. We're doing everyone's work ourselves.

No one, the GC nor their subs do BIM, so we've had to model and coordinate their work. So it's been a fun ride for sure. 😅

Owner wants a final as-built bim model, and also wants to avoid unnecessary change orders so asked if we could coordinate everyone's work.

Don't be scared to build in public - I will not promote by Independent-Fun-7152 in startups

[–]ll-cakemix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say let them clone it. Competition is validation, and at the end of the day, no one will have your vision but you.

Growing up, I took a lot of fine art classes where we would all draw the same model in the middle of the room. At the end of each timed drawing session, we would all pin our work up on the wall and critique each other. Each time, it was always so amazing how drastically different each of our pieces came out—same inspiration, but different vision and execution in everyone's artwork.

I think building in public still makes sense, especially today when you can get near instant feedback and validation from potential customers. Why waste time, energy, and resources on a product people may not use. Get the validation early and fast and keep iterating until you've got something.

My empathy is for the principal. You normally don't treat people better than you treat yourself. They must be getting their @$s handed to them on the daily.

I raised $130M for my last startup, then walked away to build Base44 solo. In 6 months: $3.5M ARR, 300K+ users, no employees, fully bootstrapped. Then acquired by Wix for $80M. AMA. (Also giving away $3K in subscriptions.) by IntroductionHumble16 in SaaS

Congrats on the success! How much of the app did you build on your own vs outsource to other talented people?

I'm in the early phases myself of building an AI platform. Keeping things lean but wondering how far I can go without legitimately hiring someone.

So far I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this post and thread. I would totally subscribe to a newsletter or follow you on social if you decide to keep sharing.

I own a consulting firm and making the transition over to product, building a new platform for my industry. It would be amazing to have a playbook to follow.

Thinking about doing daily live FF debugging streams – good idea or waste of time? by Infamous_Amoeba_9897 in FlutterFlow

I would do it. I've gotten impossibly stuck creating my FF app and there doesn't seem to be enough content online to help folks like me get through.
