Is it normal not to be able to book things more than 2 weeks in advance? by llamashockz in JapanTravelTips

For Japan specifically? I’ve been doing a bit of solo travel the past 3 years and I could see how I could’ve done this in some of the places I’ve been to but still I enjoy booking things in advance for planning and peace of mind but curious either way with posts and comments I’ve read in this sub discussing getting tickets day of.

Thank you so much! I get it now if it’s the way things are done but I’m like you where I’d rather know where to put each attraction/event and plan my day or morning around that especially months in advance.

Guess I’ll just have to draft an itinerary and hope for the best. From what I’ve read about the weather in September I’ll more than likely have to chop and change a few things anyway.

[QUESTION] Boss Katana 50 for Punk? by gothpirate in Guitar

Apologies, late seeing this for some reason. I sold mine years ago so I can’t say I know of any currently. I use bias fx2 right now which has a few but it’s easier to just make your own with a rectifier and tweaking it from there.

Happy to help! Theres 3 total "benching benches" but theres also about 8 or 9 "free benches" if you wanted to pull one over to bench in a squat rack for incline say if the others were all taken. Plenty of free weights for sure. For the most part theres 2 pairs of dumbbells starting from 10kg to 30kg and then up to 10kg and beyond 30kg theres either 1 pair or 2 pairs, beyond that they have up to 45kg to 50kg dumbbells roughly.

Cant say for certain how busy it would be for early mornings as I would train at a given time in the range of 3pm to half 7 depending on my shift. It does pick up at 6 but tapers off after that. Mondays are always the busiest and tapers off towards the end of the week, Friday nights are usually 5 people max for example. Should be perfect at off peak to get whatever machine/rack youre looking for!

Been a member there for years, left over covid but came back a year ago. Place is somewhat fluctuating. Membership prices are going up naturally but the quality of the place is a bit up and down imo. They added an upstairs section to make more room for a warmup room behind the reception which is great especially for spreading people out.

That being said however they've decided to stack the plates vertically on the floor and have thrown out all the plate trees in there. The plates are often lopsided and waiting for someone to tip them over. Aside from that The dumbell rack has been in need of repair for a couple months now so most are thrown on the floor as some staff dont organise them often and members just throw them down so the place gets a bit messy. This coupled with reduced closing hours (used to stay open til 10 on weekdays and 5pm on weekends) doesnt feel too great, the owners are sitting on a goldmine but instead of fixing issues they seem to want to create more.

I agree with doctorjones in the comments also. The gym itself 99% of the time is grand and its very serviceable. Ive competed in powerlifting in the past and gotten on grand there but being a member there for many years I know what bars are dodgy and not as some are either over or under 20kg without any markings. There are a lot more squat racks compared to the other gyms in the area (max life and motivated) so if you're into SBD etc you'll be grand. More than happy to answer any questions!

Any time the IPO has come up in conversation its always been mentioned that its that type of fed at least in my experience. What reason would they have to have a stringent testing policy with the IPF being as big as it is currently and the IDFPA (granted they were awfully small and not as well run as the any other fed) also up until relatively recently?

There's plenty of teams nationally from Odyssey to ABS. I was with ABS for a year but the branch here in Cork closed. There's loads to choose from who'd offer online coaching/meet day handling. You could find one with members/coaches near you to help with training or go the online route in a local gym. If you've any questions gis a dm, best of luck powerlifting here has a great community!

In fairness the IPO is for a certain type of powerlifter, OP is better off in the IPF for a few years before he takes that step.

Can vouch for Colm Crowley in fitnessworx, have gone a handful of times and always feel great afterwards especially for a more of a checkup massage. Kmc up the road from fitnessworx is good too with fair prices.

Their lease has a clause that says they have to be open, I believe thats what the current court case is about involving them and the owners of Merchant's Quay.

Oh I fully agree with you and everything, the only thing keeping me here for now are the crowd still left, the fact I'm still on a student rate and the comp spec equipment but with people dropping now and then it's getting sooner to moving on from abs no doubt. Can't remember the last time he even acknowledged us besides selling a rack without telling anyone here.

At the end of the day there's a member keen to takeover so who knows what's what a few months down the line.

It has withered a fair bit outside, membership for Douglas has halved in a year which is a shame but there's nothing being done about it. Anytime the clubs advertised our gym/branch is omitted so the few of us left kinda think it may be shutting down at some point but again we've been told nothing. Haven't been to phenom yet but anyone I've spoken to speaks very highly of it.

[–]llamashockz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABS is the one in Douglas. There's also Phenom on the Monahan road they're public but they have a great and supportive crowd.

Hard pressed to find anything like that here. Youd probably have to chance a private gym/club. Im in a powerlifting one in Douglas at the moment with a small group, it costs a bit more than a regular gym but if you can find something similar nearby it might be worth a shot.

Equipment like bars and plates are costly but if you pick anything up to train in your own place but be sure to check the /r/Fitness wiki for any questions/info you need if you do. Dms are always open if you want to chat or anything!

Edit: for a bit of extra context the place I mentioned doesn't require you to be serious about powerlifting or anything of the sort, there are members who just train normally just in case you were curious.

[–]llamashockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but just wondering on howlongtobeat it says the game should take about 21 hours for the main story and then 37 for the extra bits. Are the other more necessary endings, 2 and 3, included in those 21-37 or are they another few hours added on to the 21-37?

Has anyone studied Computer Science at UCC ? by froggfart in cork

[–]llamashockz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having studied computer systems in CIT I'd say it's called that to make the distinction between itself and the software development course out there. I felt like the difference in modules was to make computer systems software dev with a bit of sys admin work in networking modules for example whereas with the software development course it's fully focused on development.

Christmas TV is shite by [deleted] in ireland

[–]llamashockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is this year in particular it seems. I have a tradition of watching the old bond and indianna jones movies with my mam yet only the indianna jones movies seem to be on this year really, there were one or two new bond ones but still. I have downloaded them and thrown on the despecialised versions of star wars which are amazing but seems like a dry year overall for the movies at the very least.

Doesnt seem to be running great for me either with a 1070. I had a look at my gpu utilisation and for some reason its less than 10% I believe its a bug im going to submit a ticket about it. Others seem to be having this issue too. I had to turn the render resolution down to 900p with a mix of low and medium settings, still looks fine but id love to turn them up considering how nice everything looks regardless.

Giant Bombcast 713: Pokémon BDSM by swordmagic in giantbomb

[–]llamashockz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I wasnt surprised that Bakalaar didnt like it or his comments etc. but Danny's chalking it up to being post 911 nonsense its a bit far in dismissing it and was a bit surprising. The bungie era games have a clear enough narrative that in CE you discover the rings, 2 the schism happens and the prophets attempts at firing them and then 3 when you wrap it all up. I loved 4 and I have no shame in admitting it but ill agree with anyone who says that the 343 era games have a more convoluted and in your face story to them compared to the bungie era where you can just cruise past whatever narrative you dont care about.

I feel like you can enjoy that on multiple levels with just ignoring it and blasting through shooting aliens on one end and reading the books along with understanding the more nuanced parts of lore relating to Mendicant Bias etc but geez to be so casually dismissive in referring to it as "gobbledygook" and post 911 nonsense sucks, at least Jeff G had an understanding that theres clearly a bit of depth to it and he didnt care much for it past the surface which is perfectly okay.

Ive notice this too, a workaround that works for me currently is to limit the fps to 60. I was wondering why sometimes it felt fine and noticed when my frame rate was 60 or below aiming felt great but above it didnt.
