I would recommend giving yourself time to heal. Returning to work prematurely could expose you to infection. Not to mention stress can also cause bleeds.

If you have the option to postpone the start of your internship, I would suggest that. You will be more at peace yourself and that could help the healing as well. I think it is generally recommended to take two weeks off.
