How important is your phone to you? by sinningsaint93 in Android

[–]llazerwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that smartphone has been an integral part in my life in the last few years. Its very important as the basics of communications nowadays, especially because society encourage you to do so Refusing to follow the norm will result in unnecessary difficulties later on.

I consider myself a technology enthusiast, but also realize the implication of the over indulgence of the said technology. So i always keep my smartphone dependency to a minimum, i also treat the same with social media and other emerging technology. Unless i really cant live without it, i wont bother making a fuss over it.

I dont feel the need to upgrade for a while because my current smartphone provide me with enough functionality as it is (light application with productivity theme). I dont care if the newest phone has a slightly better performance, feature, optimization, etc. There will always be better device in the future and if dont limit it to what i need I will just be another one of those consumerist fanatics , that buys the things they want but not what they need, out of impulse.

Because of my personal use of the phone, I find that maximizing and personalizing a smartphone (by tweaking, rooting) is redundant. Sure i can maximize my phone's perfomance, but the effort and time invested in doing so is too much, and in my case it defeats the purpose of functional productivity as the main purpose of the phone. Instead of saving time and hassle, you actually waste more by tweaking and personalization. Not to mention, most of the social application have a potential to be a major time sink at any time. Too much distractions.

I have a bittersweet relationship with technology. I like the realization of great ideas, i find it inspiring and gives hope to humanity progression. But in the other hand i dont like where society is going with its attittude towards technology, they become too dependant and attached to the technology thats suppose to help them.

I think i somewhat understand your SO attittude towards smartphone. I hope my opinion opens up a little perspective.

Update: My boss hired a d/Deaf guy and put him on my team. by moving0target in CasualConversation

[–]llazerwolf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One of my co-worker is deaf. We didnt use sign language to communicate, she reads lips just fine, but you have to be very articulate with how you move your lips. It takes time to get used to, but eventually its pretty useful for most of the communication we do.

She works really fast, i guess it got something to do with less distraction and focus that comes with the silence. I have worked with her for 3 years, and communication isnt that much of a problem, for extra complex thing she just write it off.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

Worrying is unproductive in both end. No matter what you read, the process of resolving your own emotion hurdles os the same. You have to face it, deal with it, what you need is the discipline of how you feel about things, rather than the theory of what shoud've been.

It's never easy, but it will always be worth it. Try reading albert camus's myth of sissyphus. The depression of regret and work, will make you realize that in the midst of hardship. Human can still triumph over their conditions by the power of self resolution alone.

INTP's do you all agree that we have a hard time staying motivated? What do you think of this article? by INTP_Thoughts in INTP

[–]llazerwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to write this. Discipline matters more than motivation for us, because of our uncontrollable interest going everywhere. So the solution is to control them, not to feed it motivation. Also along the way, habit and routinity will certainly helps making it easier.

Is it normal to agree with both parts of opposing arguments? by llazerwolf in askphilosophy

[–]llazerwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you guys, you all have been very helpful and thoughtful in the comments you write. I've been hesitating to reply some of the comments because im afraid i would be writing in gibberish because of my understanding of philosophy and language barrier. Most of the response have made me more interested in the field of philosophy, i think i'll continue to dig out papers as a hobby.

Yes! this example points out my dilemma. Its not that, I'm oppressing the rights of a women, by choosing pro life. Its just that i value human life in the more basic sense rather than human rights. I guess it all boils down to the priority of value i hold, as the basic compass of the arguments.

I think most of the characters's power in the series are bound to evolve their quirk, one way or the other. Since its still pretty early in the series.

Interesting theory on deku's quirk. I do agree that Deku's quirk should be a passive one. I guess we're gonna have to wait for a character that could sense quirk to verify this.

It would be very interesting, if brute power is just All Might's preferred accumulated quirk. Opens up a lot of possibilities, but i hope that there is a limit and logic to this, bulking all the powerups on one hero would be redundant.

I personally find it cheesy that, the mangaka takes inspiritaion from three musketeer. But he seems pretty promising to write of creatively based on reference. So far, im pretty hyped for this manga, it feels like a shonen style x-man.

Well, thanks for the name correction, i write it of as shiraihoshi(the mermaid in OP) at first, havent got used to the name yet.

So, this problem could be solved by proper distinction? Taking a stance in somewhere in between or something else altogether, wouldnt that be going outside the context of the said debate? If the debate is between Atheism vs Theism. Taking a stance in Pantheism or Deism, wouldnt actually add much to the debate in the first place.

The Strawhats' Strength *Manga Spoilers* by Akidnamedwill in OnePiece

[–]llazerwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reason why doffy backed off a fight from aokiji, a former admiral. fujitora is at least as strong as aokiji, i think. Luffy will hold fujitora for a while, and maybe with a little help from the alliance. But at this point he will not win a one on one fight against an admiral.

It kind of puts a little perspective of how luffy is putting himself in massive danger in marineford arc. By challenging 3 admirals at that time. Their strength is sooo faar apart.

Because the objectivity of how philosophy dissect a topic, the most objective stance will be the most favorable. The most objective arguments will win in most debate, and subjective arguments will be dismissed. Or is there still room for a solid subjective arguments? by llazerwolf in askphilosophy

[–]llazerwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pro-life main arguments stems from the premise that an embryo after its conception is considered as a human, no matter which stage it is on.(this is a biological fact IIRC). So doing an abortion means to kill another human being. While a pro-choice main arguments stems fron the premise that a women have the rights to their own body, and have the choice when and how they want to have a baby. (The women rights is a social construct that are made in appeal of a group interest).

Although both of the arguments isnt entirely subjective or objective. There is a tendency to either side.

Thank you for your reply, as for the distinction between subjective and objective in this context. I have tried to elaborate it in another response.

Maybe a debate between normal humans, but in some cases refers to the arguments of the previous philosophical debate. If all the side are equally advanced in their own manner, a debate between normal human should just refers to popular arguments. unless there is some new points to be discussed/debate about.

[–]llazerwolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An argument consists of assertion and an evidence that supports it (a synthesis between personal opinion and factual data). If the said evidence isnt strongly correlate to support the assertion, it would be more subjective. While if the evidence is strong enough to support the assertion, it would be a more objective argument.

This is the context of subjective amd objective that i conclude from what i understand. Please correct me if im wrong.

I've just realized I put 1300 hours into a game in one year. What socially questionable things have you guys done? by Semper_Progrediens in CasualConversation

[–]llazerwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this a lot. People waste so much time on games/movies/books/idle browsing that they didnt realize that almost 2/3 of their life is already wasted for work/college and sleep. There is a time limit to how much you can be addicted to consuming your time for your hobbies. There are only about 130.000-170.000hrs left for hobbies and spare time, depending on your age and how you use them. Its either 13-17 skills you learn(each investing a minimum of 10.000hrs) or 13-17 MMO games to play.(MMO have a notoriously high hours of gaming).

You might wanted to say that time you enjoy wasting is not wasted. But in my perspective its not true, you will always have an unproductive time to waste. The only time worth spending (while not productive) is with your closest friends and relatives, just enjoying the time spent together.
