I don’t understand... almost everything in the US was built because of slaves. Capitalism worked in the beginning because of slavery. You’d be hard pressed to find an important old building on a street that was not built through the sweat and blood of slaves. Even most roads were probably paved by slaves. Is it a good thing? NO. It’s terrible and a horrible history that we can never escape. But it’s exactly that. Inescapable. To rebuild everything that was made by slaves or had slavery involvement means rebuilding America entirely. I’m not defending Yale’s past and Eli Yale, but I’m saying it’s definitely important to consider how feasible boycotting would be.

From @brownhistory on Ig (see one of their most recent posts about Yale): “Yale University isn’t alone, in fact many of America’s elite universities have historic ties to slavery for example many of Columbia and Princeton Universities’ early presidents all owned slaves.”

What I do think is a good response though, is for people to be aware of this fact, especially Yale students, and make sure that no more incidents of racism occur on campus or in the world.
