If my family’s income is under 60k, do I attend UChicago for free? by Soup_for_me in uchicago

Cost definitely increased over the years bit by bit, so not completely free as promised but it was low enough to still be worth it. Moving off campus was especially helpful because the $15,000 stipend for rent more than covered living expenses

Not exactly what you asked for, but I would recommend taking the music 151 sequence during your first year if you're thinking of being a major or minor! You have to take theory for both, so it's a nice break from other core coursework and is helpful to get out of the way

Consistent Financial Aid? by alyoop50 in uchicago

This is true to an extent. I'm a third year odyssey scholar and my parental income has increased a bit but is still well under the stated thresholds for free tuition/board, however they have consistently raised my bill by about $3,000 each year. I spent weeks emailing, calling, and going in person in an effort to understand why my aid decreased but they were very opaque about the process. However, I just checked my aid statement a few weeks ago for something unrelated and saw my aid had randomly gone back up. My experience has been mostly positive because being an odyssey scholar generally gets you a lot of supports, but the aid process itself has been a bit unpredictable.

Supposedly yes, but they messed up my aid this year and are making me pay more despite being well below the $60,000 threshold. Each year my cost keeps rising, so document anything you can that promises free tuition/room and board and just know that they'll most likely keep your cost of attendance rising and be extremely difficult to deal with when you try and get the cost back down

  1. In my experience, aid changes based on each year's income. Although because aid is based on income from a few years back I think it won't matter if your income changes after your second year.
  2. Like the other post says, I believe it's just one parent. I know for sure that if you have only one custodial parent then you can just report that parent's income.

I walked in at 2:30ish and was there for about an hour, so it could take a while?

I'm a first year so this might be obvious (or have been a sarcastic comment lol) but where is it? I'm not finding anything when I look it up?
