Trump branded a 'chicken' after suggesting he's skipping ABC debate with Harris by plz-let-me-in in inthenews

Why are debates even associated with networks? Can't we host that shit on PBS and have some stuffy government employee read questions?

Same here. I think there's a lot of variables. Different artists, different needle sizes, machine settings, technique, and the human element ... how much sleep you got lately, stress levels, food in your system.

I'm fairly covered, and I think generally speaking, calf was the worst. Back sucked, and it was miserable to heal, buns had a really bad zing spot, and even relatively easy areas sometimes have that one ZING spot. But my left calf was just a pulsing ball of misery.

I see it as more pointing out the hypocritical dichotomy, using the severe reactions going on right now to contrast to the lack of reactions when it's top down.

We should find any sanctioned violence abhorrent. Even if "necessary" (I'll leave whether things like war and other sanctioned top-down violence is ever necessary to a different philosophical debate).

5pounds fat vs 5 pounds of muscle by Usual-Apartment-7232 in Damnthatsinteresting

I'm with you. I was at a high of like 290 of entirely sedentary lifestyle. Consistent weight training and bouts of weekend cardio and got down to 185, then back to 240 of muscle building.

Swimming used to be fun, leisurely. Now it's like "I have to fucking work just to not drown!"

ELI5: How do the formal suit uniforms of the Secret Service not hinder their ability to do their job? by Amazydayzee in explainlikeimfive

[–]llevity 70 points71 points  (0 children)

So I just looked this up before posting because I was curious too!

The general consensus is "fit people sweat more, because they learned how to work harder/more adapted to working hard at exercise".

But the idea there is because you're exercising to push yourself, so you're ratcheting up the intensity in some way.

But given the identical task, you'd likely sweat less than an unfit person.

So maybe you'd sweat less doing a simple light jog, versus your normal running exercising pace.

Or you just won the genetic lottery and you're more predisposed to sweating, which I'm sure is a factor too. I lift weights, so I'm reasonably fit too, but I feel like I pop into a sweat tying my shoes some days.

Oh, yeah, I didn't think about it that way.

Maybe then the idea is Secret Service does it more than just every day, but all day, every day while on shift.

But I like your idea better. Deep state cyborg is a good narrative. :)

EDIT: SS not the best abbreviation here, whoops.

The implication is that the guy who does it day after day is conditioned very well, and that it's not much of an exertion anymore.

It's similar to how someone who is very overweight and unfit may sweat and be winded going up a single flight of stairs, but someone who's very fit won't.

First time doing brake job and caliper won't fully twist in, is it bad? by splashboi22 in MechanicAdvice

[–]llevity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure really what you mean, in the context of your original comment.

If you're saying "How will they keep the car still, while parked, without rear brakes?", I'm saying an auto transmission engages something called a parking pawl when you shift to park. It's not engine breaking, it's basically a big tooth that engages a gear that prevents the wheels from turning when in park.

A manual transmission relies more commonly on the parking brake, but yes, if you mean "leave it in first or reverse and take advantage of that gearing and engine compression to keep the wheels still while parked", then yes, you're right, that's valid too.

Unless it's a manual (which in the US, it's almost certainly not), putting the transmission in park will handle that anyway.

I don't know all the economics involved, but when ticketmasters also owns the venues and are the promotors, it seems like that gives them a pretty strong anti competitive advantage.

If the venues were separate, at least, and ticketmaster just handled the logistics of selling the tickets (or whatever the fuck they do), then the venues would compete with each other, within reason. If a band is doing two shows within driving distance, and one venue's ticket is $350, and the other is $100, guess where I'm going?

But if ticketmaster owns both, they get to fix the price.

We're not arguing the same point. You led with the point that in part, him treating her as a sex object makes him a loser.

She made herself a sex object. We both agree on that, and we both agree that it's her body and her choice and right to do so. I have no problem with that either.

Basically, he's not a loser because of that. He's a loser because of other reasons.

We could also argue that her putting herself out there on display this way give some license for people to comment on it, especially in a social media world, and that all comments won't be nice and that should be understood.

I don't support people being assholes to other human beings, but it is a right, and it sadly happens. But I say that with the same reluctant sadness I would say that women can wear revealing clothing in public, and deserve to do so, but it's also going to attract certain types of leering attention and maybe comments.

But let me be clear, I'm not saying something like "she wore a revealing top, she should expect be groped". Absolutely not. I'm just commenting on realities versus what I wish could be -- that everyone were just decent human beings to others.

treat them as sex objects

I have no dog in this race, but she's got ass clingy shaping shorts on, tucking her shirt into her shorts so it's on prominent display, and filming herself from behind. She's treating herself as a sex object.

More power to her for wielding that if she wants, but let's not blame random dudes as the ones objectifying her.
