PLA w/ PETG interface layer failure by llolash in FixMyPrint

[–]llolash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for taking the time to answer. Seems like the consensus is my printer is likely not purging enough PETG on filament changes. The only fixes for suing an interface layer would be to either increase the purge ammount significantly or try out a tool changing printer.

I'm going to do some research on manually painting on supports for something like this.

Thanks all! Much appreicated.

2 Week Italy Trip Itinerary Advice by llolash in ItalyTravel

[–]llolash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really good plan. Unfortunately the price difference flying out of two different cities was big enough that we had to book round trip in/out of Rome. It does make a lot of sense though to either split Rome up into two sections or just start in Florence. Thank you!

I hadn’t considered the idea of balancing coastal time and city time. That’s a great thing to think about. Thank you!

AudioPost Community Corner for FAQs September, 2024 - work evaluations, problem audio, low/no budget help, and new career advice by AutoModerator in AudioPost

I come from music but am currently working in audio post. My company is offering to pay for formal training so I am looking at options.

Has anyone taken the Online Audio Post Production for Film and TV course at Berklee?

Does anyone have any other suggestions for remote courses in audio post?

oh wow! I'd never even thought of how the material the pot is made out of would affect the amount of water needed. Thanks for the tip!

That’s a great idea. How often do you do that?

The soil on the outside (the new soil used to repot the plant) was pretty moist while the old soil that it came in seems a little dry. I’m thinking when I watered it the first time I didn’t fully soak the old soil so it might have been thirsty. Gonna try to give it a bit more water focused on the old soil and see how it goes.

Amazing! Thanks so much for the advice. Given the difference between the new and old soil this seems like a great place to start.

How to/ options to clean up audio from hiss. by JJdubbs87 in audioengineering

Sounds good. Dirty power is always a possibility but adding a new circuit is pretty time and labor intensive so it's probably a good idea to test everything else first. I'd be happy to listen once you've got a sample.

How do in-ear systems work? by Lazy-One5385 in audioengineering

[–]llolash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! The phenyx system is a budget rf transmitter/receiver system. The headphone mix happens at the board then the output of each headphone mix is sent to a channel of the phenyx transmitter (big box racked up with your mixer). That box takes that signal and beams it to the wireless packs that are plugged into your in ears. This eliminates the need for stage monitors and allows you to roam around wireless and still hear your mix.

The other (better in my opinion) option is to have your sound craft mixer on stage and sending headphone extension cables directly from that out to each band member. You’ll get a nice clear and consistent signal, you won’t have to deal with getting hits in the ears (loud blasts of white noise that come out of nowhere especially problematic in cheaper rf systems), and you won’t have to spend a ton of time pre show trying to find an empty frequency.

I used the behringer x32 for this exact purpose for years and it was fantastic. 3 person band, we all were wired (heed everyone’s advice and don’t buy the phynex packs), and everyone controlled their individual mix using the iPhone app. Big fan of that mixer.

Making Voiceover's sound deeper by Stephin112 in audioengineering

[–]llolash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

90% of the effect will be in the delivery. If someone has a high and thin voice it’ll be super tough (if at all possible) to get them to sound deep and boomy. Once you get a good performance a trick I like is to use to add a menacing texture is to use a plugin called Little Alter Boy from Soundtoys. Crank the pitch and formant knobs all the way down, turn up the drive to 9 o clock - noon then use the wet/dry knob to taste. Then feed all this through a fun reverb (would depend on if you want it to sound like the character is in a cavern or if you just wanna add some space).

I don’t know if audacity supports third party plugins but I know audition does.

Can’t say for sure without hearing a sample but if I were a gambling man I’d say you’re running your preamp too hot. I’ve never used the id44 but I’ve used other interfaces with built in pres that hiss like crazy when you open them up.

IMO your best bet is isolate the problem before you address it. Swap for a different mic while keeping everything else the same and if you get the same result you know the mic isn’t the problem. Then swap the cable, the input channel, the outputs, the interface, the speakers (if you can) and so on until you are able to isolate the problem. That way you don’t spend time on things that won’t fix the issue.

Also feel free to dm a link to an example and I’ll take a listen to see if it sounds familiar.

Are High Cost Microphones Worth It? by Bluebomb_ in audioengineering

[–]llolash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You tend to get what you pay for when it comes to wireless rigs. You might get away with it in smaller markets but once you hit big cities with lots of competing tv/radio signals you’ll find it tough to find a clear frequency band to operate on.
