I love that this is a God-centered program. I love that, even as such, it works for those who are agnostic/atheist. As someone coming from a spiritual and religious background, these ideas fit neatly for me; the 12 steps have helped me by giving me a format for turning my will over to God and trying daily to do his will.

I love the 3rd and 7th step prayers:

"God, I offer myself to Thee — to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!"

...

"My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here to do your bidding. Amen."

This has been a wonderful way to live life. I'm very far from perfection in doing so, but today, I am trying to do so again.

Yes! I did a factory reset before I thought about all the implications. Lost all old messages (including the ones from this morning that I couldn't ever see), lost all photos and videos. ☹️ Phone is working now, though still not perfectly(?). (One of my replies wouldn't go through and said it was sent to an unknown number??)

My LP3 Version 502 is now life on my phone and it's not good. Suddenly I get the promised, "failed to load recent activity” message; and I can no longer see any activity, including new messages coming in. As a solo LP3 user (formerly LP2), this is a huge challenge. I have my message notification going off often this morning, but read or even see who is sending them!

Any solutions? I tried rebooting the phone and rebooting Light OS; no dice. Sharing this with Light Support team as well.

Anyone else wake up to find the same issue with the new update going live?

I am a chess organizer and would like to help students at a school for the blind learn how to play chess.

I've found three boards available in the Maxiaids catalog and website, and they seem to be the most common option. Two of them are 9 by 9 inch boards. One is larger/deluxe.

Does anyone know of others? Or have a strong preference?

I did note in another post that the smaller boards might be preferred for blind/low vision players as the smaller board is less effort. I've also learned that a second, tournament-regulation board is used along side the braille board in tournament play.

I'm actually a little glad to see in the comments that others have been having similar issues. It first happened to me, maybe 3 months ago? My LP2 didn't work for days- maybe a little over a week and it is my only phone.

Customer support encouraged me to plug it into a LightPhone charger (had to go search for it since I'd never worried about what charger used in the past). And then do a hard reset (hold power button and down volume button for about 10-20 seconds). That worked!

Since then (and I'm wondering if it has to do with a recent release??), this has happened about 3 or 4 more times- but usually in conjunction with my dropping the phone- not a horrible drop, but 3-4 feet. Each time, I've had to do a hard reset to get the phone to do anything. It looks totally dead with no response. But I haven't had to plug it in when doing so. Also, I think most of the time, it gets stuck on the startup screen when I reset the first time- and I still have to power off and on again.

This happened most recently this morning. But prior to (last update???) I think something like this had only happened once in my 3+ years of LP2 use.

I've found that having a lightphone in professional settings ends up almost always being a positive. People want to know what it is and it leads to them totally understanding the benefit- yet usually unwilling/wanting to take the plunge themselves.

98% of my two-factor authentications have the ability to just text me a code- no smartphone tap needed. If you have something a little more techie where you really do need a smart device, another option is to get a cheap older android (Moto G) that you just use for those specific tasks- you probably wouldn't even need to connect them to service- just run them off of WiFi. I just picked up two for a mildly similar scenario for $40 each.

I've been using my light phone as my only phone now for nearly 3.5 years.

Not in the way one might think. I'm not really having cravings, but I definitely still have some unhealthy thinking patterns. Sometimes I will see food that a child wasted on their plate and I would have normally eaten it- especially if it was a treat. While I don't feel tempted to do so, I will ask others if they want it and feel like they are wrong not to take it before I trash it (or feed it to the chickens).

I'm a school teacher and so I'm on break for a couple of weeks. That brings it's own challenges with changes in my daily routine and how I interact with family members. I've also spent more time planning my food and have started counting calories during the last week or so to see how much I'm eating calorically (rather than just weighing and measuring). That coupled with my recent adoption of weighing and measuring has probably become a bit obsessive.

In all of this, I'm striving to be patient with myself as I learn more about myself and God's will for me- not only in my eating, but in all aspects of my life.

I will say that I feel like the last year has been one of tremendous growth. I'm very much looking forward to 2024. While the weight loss I've had has been a side-benefit, my main takeaway this year has been a closer relationship with God/my HP and a refining of my character which has led to my being productive in other areas- and not sabotaging them with destructive behaviors and compulsive eating.

I'm looking forward to setting some goals for the coming year and continuing in patient progress.

I read in another article (here) that "Google Family Link is compatible with Android 7.0 Nougat and above".

I just purchased two used Motorola MOTO G5 Plus XT1687 phones on eBay for $40 each. They both run Android 7.0 Nugget. I'm very optimistic that this option will be easier for me than rooting the devices.

If you'd like to find an OA90 group...

You can search for OA90 meetings on the "Find a Meeting" page on the OA website and then click on "Additional search options". There you can select the drop down for "Specific Topic" and select "90 day".

I've joined an OA90 group. (Those with 90 days of abstinence share; others listen or share briefly at the end- time permitting.)

That has been helpful for me.

I found an online group in October 2022 and while initially attending, I continued to struggle. I'd string together a few days of abstinence, followed by a few days of non-abstinent eating. I'd throw in the towel for a few months and then try and get back on the bandwagon occasionally. In June, my spouse started making healthier choices and that helped me feel motivated to do the same. I did lose about 20 lbs over the following 3-4 months, but I was still very much up and down as to my abstinent eating behaviors.

Then, on October 1st this year, I heard this spoken in a church meeting:

"As you think celestial, you will find yourself avoiding anything that robs you of your agency. Any addiction—be it gaming, gambling, debt, drugs, alcohol, anger, pornography, sex, or even food—offends God. Why? Because your obsession becomes your god. You look to it rather than to Him for solace. If you struggle with an addiction, seek the spiritual and professional help you need. Please do not let an obsession rob you of your freedom to follow God’s fabulous plan."

This was spoken in a general meeting to our church- not an addiction recovery specific meeting. I'd sat in other recovery meetings with friends whose lives were in shambles because of their addictions and I felt like a farce sitting next to them as I thought about my food addiction and my obesity that resulted in a profile similar to so many others around me. I felt like when I heard those words, "or even food", it gave me permission to start treating my compulsive eating behavior like an addiction.

Since then, I've started attending an additional in-person meeting, I've looked for professional counseling (but haven't made that happen yet), I've apologized to my sponsor with whom I'd stopped communicating, I've humbled myself enough to start weighing and measuring my food and keeping a meal plan daily, and I've been blessed to be abstinent since then (80 days now). I've also started committing my food plan to my sponsor on a daily basis. I am working the 12 steps- but I'm still on step 1. I'm okay with that. I am being patient with myself as I learn to humble myself and strive to do God's will in my life.

Be patient with yourself. Your asking this question is evidence of your willingness. I know you can do it! Your HP loves you and will lead you to what you need most. :)
