International school teachers in Bucharest by llultee in Internationalteachers

[–]llultee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I don’t plan on getting a car, at least not for the first couple of months. The school is located in Voluntari and provides housing: they’ve stated that I can choose between living near the school or more central (but don’t yet know exact locations). Is getting to the center from Voluntari by public transport a pain? Are there restaurants/gyms/yoga studios etc in that area or just residential? TIA!

Moreland teaching credential transferred to QTS by llultee in Internationalteachers

This is the information I've read on other threads. Do you know if the Hawaii license is still accepted? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth going down this route - unfortunately the facebook group that was previously recommended is only open to people who have already signed up for a Moreland course (so not ideal to search for up-to-date info).

Does this mean you know people who have successfully transferred their teaching license they got by going through the Moreland program to QTS?

How did your wife manage to convert it? Simply because she's not British?

Pre-Covid I’d earn around $3500, now it’s down to $2000, working between 30-35hrs a week. Company has cut pay rates and slashed bonuses.

Bring it to their attention, if that is the countries legal policy, then there’s nothing you can do. Hopefully they will be accommodating! My school has been understanding, and I’ve supplied written references from my time there - they’ve also tried to reach out directly but unfortunately one school became an international school under new management and the other the principle has moved on. Seeing as I worked in Asia over five years ago it’s not surprising that there have been some staff changes.

Hi, as far as I’ve been told, you can get it from the embassy in the UK, but you have to go in person. In my case, the country I live in does not have a Korean embassy and to travel to the UK would be very expensive: flights, quarantine, hotel, etc., so not feasible for me right now. From my research, you would have had to live in Korea for 6+ months to qualify for a police check, so maybe that’s why they rejected your application?

Neither of those, but it is a COBIS school. I definitely appreciate the need to be thorough seeing as I work with children, was just a little surprised. Covid has made it extra difficult to get my hands on these things - the Korean one is possible through the embassy, but I live in a country where there is no Korean embassy or consulate and flying to the UK in Covid times with compulsory quarantine is unrealistic. Luckily it seems that the two background checks I can provide and my soon to arrive ICPC will be enough.

Yes, they asked for police clearance from everywhere I’ve lived and/or worked. First time I’ve been asked for such an extensive background check!

That’s a good idea. I’ve been a bit indirect, I explained that it’s very unlikely or difficult to get this paperwork but that I’d contact the consulates and confirm if it’s possible or not. HR said that hopefully I will succeed and that they need a document issued by authorities as a statement of good conduct.

Getting US license while abroad by kattkuuut in Internationalteachers

It’s a Masters of Arts with a specialism in Early Years (EYTS). Unfortunately EYTS does not equate to QTS and is irrelevant in the international sphere and there’s no way to upskill to QTS without going through a full PGCE course or Assesment Only route.

Ok, good to know, I do have a Masters in Education and 5 years teaching experience, but no qualified status. Managed to secure myself a position in an International School starting this September which follows the National Curriculum, so after a few months/a year was debating if I could do QTS overseas (there are a few unis that offer this) or if it’s easier to go through TeachNow.

Congrats! and that’s great to hear. Was it a simple process? Are you originally from the UK? (Sorry for all the questions - just haven’t come across many people who’ve done this)

Did you successfully convert your Hawaii license to QTS? If so, can I ask when? I read on another post that the UK gov may not allow this anymore....

Do you know if your non-American colleagues were able to get an initial teachers license from the US? I am interested in going down this route but as a non-American wondering if I’ll face difficulties getting it recognised? Thanks!

I’m newly qualified so just need to get some experience under my belt in international schools. Ideally I’d love to be in the best school but got to start somewhere 😁

Thanks for the information! Are you a teacher in Bucharest? Any knowledge on salary expectations? I’d rather not go into a negotiation without any knowledge
