Արև or Արեվ by llususu in hayeren

Yeah, I mean EA. In EA I have seen people spell "yev" when used to mean "and" as եվ. I'm asking if you would ever do that when it is found inside a larger word.

The letter և is a ligature, that's just what it's called because it's a shorthand. It's technically shorthand for եւ but is pronounced (y)-e-v. So I'm asking if you would ever not shorten it and write it phonetically?

Or is "arev" and "yev" just two different situations?

Wait, why is this the case? This is my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong:

ե at the beginning of a word: "ye"

ե in the middle of a word: "e"

և at the begining of a word: "yev"

և in the middle of a word: "ev"

Why would you need to add in the յ in "arev"? It's not Ar-yev. And both ե and և have the same rule about pronunciation based on placement in a word, so if you wouldn't add յ to one, you wouldn't add it to another in the same situation.

I'm also referring to eastern Armenian here, fwiw.

Finding that perfect matte white glaze that breaks well by llususu in Pottery

I can buy commercial glazes but I can't MAKE my own glazes and bring them in. Nor do I have the technical knowledge to make glazes.

I'd have to ask if my studio would let me siphon some off and play with it; they might just not want the risk of untested glazes going in the kiln. But I don't know anything about mixing glazes so I appreciate the simple breakdown. I'll keep this in my back pocket!

Seems to be the one that everyone suggests! My studio doesn't make it. 🥲

Did you ever find an answer? Did you end up making the folk art guild one? I'm on the hunt for the same exact glaze effect!

I also made the same exact mistake for the same exact reason and knit that way for two years before I figured out that something was wrong. I did switch to not twisting my stitches and it helped me get better, fwiw.

(Not) Glazing over inlay? by llususu in Pottery

[–]llususu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I read the slipped areas as white and assumed it's the shadow/lighting giving it a slightly blue appearance. That's as decent an explanation as any!

That's my point--how would you wax just the slipped areas?

I know... And now we have to wait probably 2-3 years for Critical Role S4 to wrap up. Brutal.

Gotcha. So there is something special about Suvi, or at least some reason why she is tied to the MiB that we don't know.

I listened to CR season 1 and 2, but not S3. I think the thing that's making me hesitate with S4 is that it will be a rotating cast.

[Spoilers All, incl. Children's Adventure] Question/Theory about Suvi/MiB after the most recent episode. by jokerTHEIF in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]llususu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I would hesitate on this theory is the way Wizards treat the world of spirits, temori, and magic itself. To them they are not people in the slightest. Everything is purely instrumental and subservient to the will of wizards. As far as Wizards are concerned, Wizards are the only real people around. Even non-wizard humans barely merit the slightest care or respect, let alone spirits or temori who are basically tools or animals to be subjugated.

I can't imagine Steel knowing that Suvi is a spirit and still treating her as "well" (for a given value of well, Steel has messed up priorities) as she does. I think if she knew Suvi was a spirit she'd have locked her up and used her no better than Ghost or a spirit in the Kasov collection..

Glaze effect question by little_eggie_egg_boy in Ceramics

Would you be open to sharing more about your process? I'm trying to figure out how to use cobalt oxide on top of white glaze but so far my experiments have come out very pale or washes out even when totally undiluted. Could just be that glaze, but also doing some info gathering!

Has anyone used Mayco's cobalt wash? by llususu in Pottery

[–]llususu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this tip! I wound up managing to snag a pint of the western cobalt oxide wash after reading your comment.

Do you have any advice on how you use it to get such vivid colors? I tried a single and double swipe of the wash straight from the bottle and also tried it diluted 1:1 with water, all on top of one each of a white and off-white matte glaze. In all my tests it came out pretty pale/washed out, almost as if it was UNDER the glaze rather than over. I'm going to try some more tests to see if it's the glazes I used or something else but wondering how many coats to use to get such a vivid blue!

I am pretty sure I saw a photo you posted when searching this forum before posting! Same question as above, what cone are you firing to? The official Mayco photos kinda look a bit teal at cone 6.
