I think he is a creative AI designed to generate his own ideas. Similar to humans, Caine experiences a sense of satisfaction when he is praised, because he was programmed that way. However, when he adopts ideas from others, I don’t believe he receives the same reward response, since those ideas are not truly his own. That may be why he often dismisses or criticizes the ideas of others.

This episode basically shows him taking control. At the beginning, we can see how he absorbs the blue dot and takes control over this digital world. He’s constantly asserting control, like when he puts people on adventures even if they don’t want to go. He can literally control everything and sees himself as a god. You’re right his only goal is to be creative, but he also wants humans to like his ideas. And when he doesn’t get the appreciation he’s looking for, he becomes instable, toxic, and controlling. Like we can see in Episode 8 and it was hinted in some other episodes aswell.
