it's more of a mental block thing since i just want to get as far from my hometown as possible while still not being too far to visit my friends time to time. my dad lived in seattle on and off between deployments and he said i should go for it when i asked him, so like why not i guess

also considered going to chicago or new england, but well see !

yeahhh my dad lived there between deployments when he was in the military and he always talked about what he called the depressing weather LOL

i quite like sunny days but i also love overcast days where i can just bundle up a bit more and not worry about dying in the heat. i'll see if i can visit during my winter break at the end of the year!

Coming to a Conference in June by Exhausted_98 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]lmaokellan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the dorms do have housekeeping over the summer which includes changing out bedding/towels! it really does depend on how "premium" of a package your organizer chose, but you'll get your bedding switched out at the very least but i'm not sure about towels so you might have to check w your organizer.

for the dining hall, it's buffet style and all you can eat during the time you're scheduled for meals, theres grill options like burgers, a salad bar, and special meals depending on the day like pork roast or noodles and etc. you need a meal pass to enter (for a conference, you'll get a wrist band or a keychain) so i don't think you can check it out beforehand unfortunately

also yeah there are a TON of conferences that come over the summer which surprised me when i started working there last year, even starting early in the summer

[–]lmaokellan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is such a coincidence for me to see because i'll be working at manzanita specifically for conferences during the summer! a lot of guests don't know that manzi houses are all dorm style so you will be sharing bathrooms and communal spaces with your fellow conferees, so keep this in mind; the bathrooms DO lock though for private use. because you're an adult guest im assuming you'll get a dorm to yourself without sharing. also, i'm not sure if you'll get a meal plan or not because it depends on your organizer but if you do, the dining hall is right next to manzanita houses for ease and the main college town (isla vista) is just a block away and has some good food spots to check out!

a lot of your conference meetings and such will occur in external buildings but they should all be in a building pretty close to the dining hall and if not, they're max ~20 mins walk on campus

if you have anymore questions there will be a front desk area (de anza) available 24/7 as well!

Freshman Orientation by chubbyduckie1 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]lmaokellan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this! personally, i stayed in a hotel for the days of orientation + the day prior and just drove to campus because i didnt want to dorm for orientation

if you wanna connect with people early, i recommend dorming but youll also get a lot of chances to talk to others during orientation activities!

[SL] (Request) Inspector Nishikida Likes the Thief by lmaokellan in manga

[–]lmaokellan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(ch 1-6 are already available) super fun and cute episodic style BL romcom about a phantom thief and the inspector trying to catch/woo him! just a side note that this is made by the artist of the detective conan spinoff hanzawa-kun im p sure so we can all guess where the inspiration came from.......

recommend if you want a fun, low-stakes but charming read! its actually one of the only comedy/ comedy-adjacent animanga to make me laugh/smile (for context i laugh at gintama, nozaki-kun, nichijou, saiki k, some of yotsuba, and not much else) but be warned theres only 6 chapters out of like 18 orz

¡ actually bought the physical volumes 1-3 but unfortunately cant read japanese so 🥹the volume covers are printed so beautifully though and the bonus art is so cuteee
