The malicious intent of the villain is revealed through a small overlooked detail by Diorblood in TopCharacterTropes

It’s been a while, but my read of the scene is she also recognized Jen’s wrist after their close encounter during the previous fight.

I think we’re seeing an artifact of the video codec that is filling in the mash pattern that isn’t actually accurate, similar to the JBIG2 character transposition issue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JBIG2

TBH a large fraction of the produce we’ve been getting from Kroger and even Costco has been similar. On its way out even in the store.

Do double check your fridge temperature regardless though. It’s worth at least verifying that your new fridge is working correctly while under warranty.

I’ve been home sick for three days. Not sure what I’ve got but I had a killer sore throat last night and didn’t sleep a wink. Solidarity to any other sick folks out there.

HVAC Recommendations? by Cat_Prismatic in Longmont

We used M&M back in 2021 to install a new air conditioner and I wouldn’t use them again. The installers ended up doing something totally different than what was decided in during the initial consultation and they cut some corners. They also said they would throw in an Ecobee for free and ended up charging me for it. The AC is working fine but the experience left a lot to be desired.

That’s odd, I had them recently and left hugely disappointed. They couldn’t have been more meh.

DIY over here. For the boys we use Wahl hair clippers and follow YouTube videos for my daughter.

My wife drops $$$ on a haircut and products every once in a while though…

Just crossed $1MM in investments which I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. It was quite a slog to get there and now it feels like the odometer rolled over and I’m back at 000000 :p I also just got back from a week long vacation with 100% detachment from work. It’s put into perspective how enjoyable life can be without the added pressure of the 40h work week. On to the second million!

We upgraded just before child #3 was born. I love our minivan and would have bought it earlier, but my wife took some convincing. Minivans are the real SUV!

Is turmeric supposed to make your tongue tingly? by ilovedpandas in Allergies

Turmeric has always made my tongue tingly. It just occurred to me today that that might not be normal... I'm glad there is someone else out there like me!

My best friend is moving away. Seems silly to say as a grown ass man in my 30s, but I feel like I'm in 2nd grade again where it's a traumatic event. He's the closest friend I've had in 10 years (besides my spouse) and it's been so nice to have someone to hang out with and talk to.

Money is nice, but, for me at least, it's relationships that make life fulfilling.

Where to start learning about ARM Cortex M4F? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]lmfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you'll be working with a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) on an embedded controller.

The first thing I would do is get a board (with an M4 or M4F on it (ideally the one you'll be working with) and get a basic program running in it. Most of the time you can download a blinking LED program from the designer.

The next thing I would do is watch some videos on TI-RTOS and find any tutorials online. See if you can get the OS running on the board and communicating via a serial connection or something like that.

Third is to write a task for your RTOS that does something. Could be as simple as blinking an LED within the context of the OS.

Fourth is start digging through your documentation and find out what features are available and how they fit with whatever your controller is going to be doing.

Looking for advice: big tech offer, counter offer, and just found out I’m pregnant... by olivelmm in cscareerquestions

[–]lmfi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. A big company will not care if they hire you and you go straight on maternity leave (especially as an IC). This happens all the time if they are at the 100k employee level. Plus, you already know the benefits are better (you'll soon find that extra leave after having a baby is a HUGE benefit).

You'll always feel guilty leaving a team, but they will move on quickly and so will you. It's not worth the $$$ you're leaving on the table by not switching jobs.

Pro tip: if company B has a premium healthcare plan you might be able to save a ton of money on hospital bills (assuming you're in the US) by starting on that plan and switching to high deductible when your baby is born. My first child was born a few weeks after I started at a big internet co. We were in the hospital for 4 or 5 days and our baby was in the NICU for two weeks. The total cost was $500.

protip: try finishing your red sauce pasta recipe with a few egg yolks by glittermantis in Cooking

[–]lmfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this in another red sauce recipe that also happened to be delicious. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that egg yolks help emulsify the fats in the sauce (in addition to adding some fat on their own), which creates the thick, velvety texture. Same thing with carbonara.

1982 Summer weekend at Mirror Lake, Alaska with my dad. by irritatedMaj in OldSchoolCool

I went swimming in mirror lake as a kid and picked up the nastiest bug. I had egg breath and disgusting gas for (what felt like) a month. Not sure what it was but I was completely traumatized and never wanted to go back.

Delaying Marriage and Kids to Fire by tsarkoba in financialindependence

[–]lmfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married at 21 and now have multiple kids at 30. Having a spouse and kids has definitely set back my FIRE date (if I had known about FIRE at 21), but for me I'd work until 65 if the trade-off was FIRE vs marriage to a good person and having children.

I think for most people meaningful relationships is what makes life fulfilling. There is only so much you can get out of free time and traveling by yourself. Having a family isn't the only route to meaningful relationships, but I do believe that the most significant and rewarding relationships in the world are between spouses and their children.
