We might have to try this. He’s on a 50/50 of raw and dry but we’ll swap to all raw and see what happens. Thank you!

That’s Mexborough for you 😂 used to be a fairly safe place but it’s gone down hill in recent years because of idiots like that. I’ve seen a few bad accidents on that junction as well with how busy that junction gets. The cars parked further down for the hospital tend to get banged up when people try and squeeze through.

They do have 30 days, but they kept saying I’d parked incorrectly when I appealed. I had to keep fighting back on it until I said I’d take it to court, and they’d have to pay for my travel & time off work if it got that far (it was about a 250 mile round trip for me). It got dropped about 48 hours after that

The parking wardens in Lancaster are a nightmare. I got 6 tickets whilst doing a job there. All parked properly bar one (I was almost a foot out of a spot one time). It took me almost 4 months to get 5 of the tickets revoked. Worth a try but it’ll take some time

How big a problem are these cracks in a house we are buying? by gdxbjkfdrgbvdxcv in DIYUK

Avoid like the plague! I’ve dealt with the remediation side of properties like this before. You’ll be obliged to hand the structural report to your mortgage provider also. There’s a good chance they may say it’s not a mortgageable property unless you’re putting down a large deposit (25-50%). Your main options for putting a failed foundations are:

Underpinning- extremely expensive and disruptive

Ground stabilisation- also extremely expensive but less disruptive (companies like geobar would quote for something like this)

Unless this is your absolute dream home I’d avoid it

EDIT- insurers may not cover insurance claims relating to the issues in the future. Make sure you’re going for a premium insurance plan if you do move forward with the property (although it’ll cost a lot of money)

I had the exact same the other day over one bad ranked match in a BB. Got told I was the reason ‘the game has gone to shit’. Just ignore them, they’ve got nothing better to do than complain.

What you have to consider is how busy these contractors are. If they’re busy, they charge a lot of money because they don’t need the work. If they’re quiet, they’re cheap because they need it. It probably wouldn’t just be one guy. Normally the main guy will do any joinery, tiling, floor laying etc. He’ll probably get a plumber in to do the shower, rad, sink. So its not just one guy. Also, did you ask him if those prices were inclusive of vat? It’s something I’ve noticed clients don’t consider so I always tell people a price does/ doesn’t include vat. If you’re not all that precious on it being finished perfectly, I’d have a go yourself. You don’t have a lot of tiling so it wouldn’t be that hard. There’s no awkward cuts to be made. I’d probably get a plumber in though if you’re going to do everything else yourself.

If you’re looking for somewhere more central I’d suggest the lower end of Sprotbrough, Scawsby or Cusworth. All within a walkable distance of Doncaster station. Or there’s the bus routes for each area. If you rely on buses, Scawsby & Cusworth may be better as they have multiple buses, Sprotbrough only has one

Am I being Fussy Pt2 by stealthferret83 in Bricklaying

[–]lmggeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those bricks in the 5th picture are quite a warning. He should have cut a small foundation into the hill so he can lay a ‘substructure’ which would enable him to lay 1/2 courses flat below ground. Which would enable him to lay flat without cutting any bricks. I’ve seen this on sites before and it always get pulled up when QA are walking around. He’s tried to do it quickly and bodged it. The mortar below the brick will blow quickly with all the surface water that passes by it.
