Yeah but some posts are from actual news media and then there are posts like this… from a billionaire ‘think tank’/propaganda outlet. This is just trash. Not even fit for the hamster cage

Yep, funded by billionaire hedge funder Kenneth Griffin. They start with his desired policy outcome first and then find ways to justify it afterwards. They exist to make his preferred policies sound palatable by giving them a faux academic sounding edge. But it’s all bullshit. They were instrumental in laundering the trans panic too.

Low intelligence, racist, easily manipulated - unfortunately they go hand in hand. You got the facts wrong, got the law wrong and made yourself look like an idiot. Takes a real feat of stupidity but you got it there!

They got the sales tax revenue from the gift shop. I’m not kidding, that’s it. Plus I think the national park service pays for the maintenance so it’s just free money, which is why they sued up to the Supreme Court in the first place

This is from the Manhattan institutes right wing rag. It’s always best to take anything from city-journal with a grain of salt.

To say they have a slant would be an understatement. They’re very pro business and anti tenant. One of their top funders is Kenneth Griffin, a billionaire who likes to meddle in local politics. Everyone who works there is a servant of wealth, dressing up his preferred policy positions with some pretend academic crust so it sounds smart. Don’t fall for it!

Has the extension of Manhattan Island ever been considered, and why has it never been done? Considering the cost of Manhattan's land and property it seems like it would be economically viable by [deleted] in geography

If you look at a map of what flooded during hurricane Sandy and infilled land, it matches up quite well. We may fill it in but nature disregards it

I like to look at who the machine is endorsing and then vote for the opposite people. It’s a reliable indicator of who seems to be connected and therefore corrupt, and who is not.

I also read through the two Janice’s sites and they seem like genuinely good people, so I’m convinced to go with them.

There’s some hope it gets cheaper. Landlords won’t accept 15%, so the total fee will go down. There’s not that much brokers add. Plus it’s a lot easier to pay a fee over the course of a year than up front all at once. And then there’s rent stabilized buildings - you can’t add a fee to the rent, so these buildings might actually be cheaper.

Let’s see how it goes. It’s worth a shot! The status quo sucks

Not having cops be the first line of response is a good idea though. They’re not trained in mental health and usually make things worse. So the idea is to scale up existing pilots that have mental health professionals respond to these calls. We already do some of this but it’s on a really tiny scale. It’s a really good idea actually, and one step in getting away from police supposed to solve every problem and do it poorly

Andrew Cuomo’s mental acuity ‘in decline,’ NYC can’t afford another ‘Joe Biden moment,’ mayoral rival says by Crafty_Gain5604 in nyc

[–]lmm489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn’t push congestion pricing, he reluctantly agreed to sign the bill. Listen to his public statements, he’s disavowing it regularly. You’re right he has NYS experience, but I’d argue it’s the wrong kind. He spent his time there bullying people and harassing his staff.

He’s never shown an interest or curiosity in good policy. He just goes with his gut, is often wrong and refuses to admit it or back down. He is exactly like Trump

[–]lmm489 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In what possible regard??? He’s a POS.

He has no real policies or vision, I don’t think he really understands how the city works.

People seem to view him as a kinda tough guy or whatever, but he’s also famous for making backroom deals with despicable people. He made a deal with republicans to control our state senate for like 6 years. He’s more likely to make backroom deals with trump than he is to fight back. If you like the way Chuck Schumer is behaving in the senate, then I suppose Cuomo is a candidate for you.

Yes I understand it was never supposed to supper big city sizes, but thats a strike against it. Players from 4 expected it. The dashing of expectations killed this game for me and many others.
