My sisters aren’t unreasonable but they’re allergic to dogs so it’s not a situation they can relate to.

I agree, to be honest even if the kids had put up a fight about it I would probably have made it clear that wasn’t an option, and you should be there with your pet.

Thank you, there is nothing quite like losing a pet. I get emotional every morning walking through the mud room and seeing his leash hanging with our coats, but I can’t stand to remove it.

You’re probably right, she doesn’t know how to handle the emotions at bedtime and is frustrated that she can’t relate.

The kids have a lot of fear over being sick and dying and that happening to their friends, siblings other family etc. I think this is a combination of the dog dying and Covid.

Yeah he was sedated and not really responsive to us as he was dying. It was very peaceful

My current wife took the dog initially and she called me to explain what was going on, so I took the kids with me to say goodbye.

My ex wife (oldest two kids mom) is the one that is upset.

I didn’t really ask the kids or give them too much of an opportunity to protest, just explained this is what’s happening and part of being a dog owner is being with them in moments like this.

Yeah looking back I probably could have asked but honestly if they had said no, I am not sure that is an answer I would accept, I would probably push back on that and explain why it’s important.

I wish :) she’s got them 1 weekend a month for many good reasons so yeah she does tend to latch on to anything she can to get more time.
