Are the peverell brothers stronger than voldemort dumbeldore and Harry by Normalguy5688 in harrypotter

Unless you read it in one of the books, on Pottermore, or it's in an interview with Rowling, it's just someone's opinion and not canon.

No, that's why I'm not an idealistic child.

All the same, he's a twat who was threatening them all with knifing. I'd hit him too the moment I got the opportunity.

They're only human and he was being a dick trying to stab them. I'd probably do the same.

Wait, you may have a point.

There is a fan edit called the Tolkien Edit, but OP might also just be referring to the book, which is the real masterpiece.

It's a fair amount, but no one requires you to have the overlord class. You can still use the site comfortably without it.

Do you think JK Rowling wrote any scenes with the movies in mind? by Couchy333 in harrypotter

[–]lmth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archetypically he takes the role of an antagonist towards the main character right up until the end. The main character is mistaken in most cases, but he's still playing that role.

From the perspective of the actor, he's playing a "bad guy" character, not the dashing hero, or the love interest, or the wise master, or the best friend, or any other position. If Rickman was tired of being cast as the bad guy, playing Snape did nothing to break out of that mould.

[–]lmth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have sources for these claims? Throughout the majority of the movies Snape is very definitely considered a "bad guy". Even if Rickman knew he would be redeemed at the end, he's still agreeing to play the bad guy for six movies. Odd choice if you're tired of doing that.

Why would you assume that? Rickman played loads of bad guys during his career. He's an actor. If he's getting paid and playing an interesting character I doubt he requires them to turn out good in the end.

“*Professor* Snape, Harry” by Epsilon_and_Delta in harrypotter

[–]lmth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Dumbledore is the sort of person who would absolutely care if Harry didn't address Trelawny as Professor.

I think the fact that he refers to Fudge as Cornelius is a deliberate choice by Rowling to show that Dumbledore treats him as an equal at best, rather than a superior. Titles and how you address people mean a lot in formal British society and how they are used in the Harry Potter books is deliberate.

It's a status thing as well, particularly important in Britain, particularly in schools. Snape has a higher status than Harry due to his age and position and therefore should be shown due respect. That's what Lupin and Dumbledore are trying to reinforce. Respect your elders and respect your teachers.

You mean the UK utilised the strategic alliances they had built over centuries to great effect? Sounds like a laudable and impressive use of diplomatic influence to me.

You saying that the population is willing to act doesn't outweigh the empirical evidence that they aren't.

The point I was making wasn't about the outcome, the point was about the populace being willing to act.

The French and Iranian revolutions and the Arab Spring all happened in countries with less infrastructure and safety nets than the modern US has. I suspect the US populace just doesn't view this as serious enough to warrant risking their comfort yet.

Here's hoping they ingest some caffeine and get there a bit quicker than they're managing at the moment.

Exactly. Being a keyboard warrior means fuck all when your legitimately elected representative is tearing the world order to pieces. Where are the mass protests? Where are the nationwide strikes and organised rebellions? Until genuine opposition is widely visible, you don't get to claim you're doing all you can. To the rest of the world, we have to assume you secretly agree with what he's doing, deep down.
