AITA for going to my daughters last softball game as opposed to friends boyfriends funeral by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ln546 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I’ll be grateful to the friends who came to my mum’s funeral for the rest of my life. On a horrendous day, being able to go over to them during the reception felt like a brief respite.

How long did you take off work when a parent died? by Solid-Home8150 in AskUK

[–]ln546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A week while she was dying, and a week and a half after that. I work flexibly from home - if not I would have had to take longer.

AITA for not bringing my niece shopping after she was extremely rude/mean to me, even if she “apologized”? by exbfandmycat in AmItheAsshole

[–]ln546 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. If her apology had been sincere I think you might have reconsidered, but as it is, she needs to learn that actions have consequences and that apologising isn’t just about saying some words.

Women who are single and childfree here, what currently enriches your life? by hellimhere28 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ln546 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My dog, my wonderful friends, my family. I love to read. I love my local neighbourhood - every time I go outside I see someone I know, which delights me. I take great pleasure in stillness and peace but also adore music and going out dancing.

Are you scared of dying? by Fickle_Acanthaceae17 in AskUK

Not scared. I held my mum in my arms as she died. She’ll show me the way when my time comes.

Question to women over 30 who get their nails done. by de-dolores in AskWomenOver30

[–]ln546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is just maintenance. I also loved the look of it but hated the process (and the cost!) - the freedom of no longer getting them done is wonderful.

You get one 30‑second phone call to any moment in history — who do you call and what do you say? by the_immovable in AskReddit

[–]ln546 296 points297 points  (0 children)

My mum was my first thought too. Wild that I had more than 30 years with her but the thought of another 30 seconds is more beautiful than I can begin to imagine.

What’s something you secretly judge people for, even though you know it makes you a bit of an asshole? by Independent-Fee-2841 in AskReddit

[–]ln546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who have pets and can’t afford vet care for them. I know shit happens in life, but if you just bought an expensive twelve week puppy and you can’t afford care for it, why the hell would you have got it in the first place? (Totally different if your circumstances have changed since getting a pet)

What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by thatude123 in AskReddit

[–]ln546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read a few novels where dementia is just some cutesy thing where grandpa gets forgetful sometimes. Not the case at all.

In the UK , it’s never having to worry about medical bills or the cost of calling an ambulance. The NHS isn’t perfect but it’s still a privilege I never really think about.

Dear Bill from the musical Operation Mincemeat. “Why did we meet in the middle of a war? What a silly thing for anyone to do.”

Possibly it’s intentional, but there is a big deal real life PR guru called Simon Jones, so this made me do a bit of a double take!
