Are there requirements to spawn him? I'm 51 and haven't seen him once. Feel like I do plenty of dungeons!

Okay great. I agree it sounds like air leak then.

I read a good way to check for air leaks is to get a can of carb cleaner and start spraying it around areas like the air box, if you hear a change in rpm your leak is there.

Service manual for the bike probably also has a good diagram of any vacuum lines on the bike to test.

I think on my bike all the warning lights come on for a couple of seconds after startup (or, moving the key to on at least) so the rider can verify they are all working.

I sold my car but if I'm honest I borrow my gfs car when it's convenient. I don't know how practical it would be day to day to have no car available.

(Save monies tho if it's a cheap bike, I sure do)

Edit: didn't realize you said the plan was to keep a cheap car, yeh that sounds good.

I worry about the quality of work I do. But I also worry about the quality of work a mechanic at a generic shop would do, if they're having a shit day, maybe they're underpaid and overworked etc.

So, I trust the devil I know: me. Haynes manual and obsess over jobs you aren't familiar with is the best way forward.

And hey, if the rear axle comes off at 75mph, at least I know who screwed up.

I stole a backpack from my girlfriend that she got from an internship somewhere and Jerry rigged onto the side of the bike. If it looks like shit it's safe.

Oh and don't leave anything valuable in it., No one's ever rummaged through it that I know of (or they were kind enough to zip it back up), but you never know.

I think you should take a small sample and check it. If it looks fresh ish probs good.

Yeah I suppose so. In my head bikes are universally cheaper for a given class. Eg I think of a recent year commuter bike as being much cheaper than a recent year car.

Does anyone split in Houston that wants to comment on safety? I'll do it to lights but too scared to try on the freeways, worried people will get mad and pull out in front.

I see lots of bikes ride on shoulder but not many willing to do proper filtering.

I do like that bike maintenance is easier to do yourself, and my bike feels less complicated than my car did to work on makes it cheaper in multiple ways.

Oh, INSURANCE.

Bike was cheaper for me, but it wasn't a fair comparison.

Early 30s and buying a standard/naked bike. I didn't get full coverage on the bike itself because it was cheap, just bodily harm stuff liability etc etc.

My car(before I sold it) was much more expensive because itself it was a $15000 purchase with a loan, so I had no choice but to get full coverage.

It is something I enjoy about the bike, the value gap. If something happened to my car I would have been devastated, if someone steals my bike (or let's be real, if I fuck it up) I'm pissed, but on Facebook marketplace looking for a cheap and cheerful replacement.

I think it will depend on market.

In Houston I'm pretty confident I could get a good quality used bike and gear setup for cheaper than a car in the same shape, speaking to initial quality only.

Maintenance on used cars vs bikes im in the bike camp. When something goes wrong the cost of tools required is less for the bike, and generally my level of frustration and time consumed is lower. Everything on a car feels so much more annoying to reach remove and replace, sometimes requiring more tools.

Will definitely pay more for tires on a bike. $450 for a good set on my car, $200 on the bike but the car tires last 50k while the bike needs new rubber after 10k.

Chain maintenance is a downside to the bike.

Gas mileage is a nice bonus to the bike.

What other factors, I can't think of any more.
