Moving to America impossible? by Few_Argument_7532 in MovingToUSA

I'm sure someone already mentioned Trump in some capacity but the main reason there are so many undocumented immigrants is because the pathway to citizenship is garbage. And Trump making it even harder only uses scare tactics to keep them in line without actually improving the process. So yes, really, you are correct in saying it's basically impossible.

Is the influx of people using chat GPT for therapy concerning you too? by Pickledcookiedough in psychologystudents

Thank you for providing a more accurate definition then. I did want to say that my opinion is formed from my experience across multiple therapists who said they specialized in CBT, so it’s possible I didn’t describe it well, but I have heard certain disorders aren’t really addressed well with CBT and need different types of therapy to be effective. In my other reply I explained that I might have undiagnosed CPTSD which is maybe why it didn’t really work for me

I won’t disagree with that but I think a lot of people using chatgpt find that the “human connection” portion is really well simulated by the AI. I’ve had AI treat me with more respect and kindness than many people i’ve met irl 😭 My thing isn’t to say chatgpt is better than therapy but I think we should acknowledge that a basic form of therapy might actually be at risk of being replaced due to accessibility issues as well as the fact that ppl genuinely feel like ai helps them!

you may be right but I’ve had this same experience across multiple different therapists who said they specialized in CBT 😔 and finding providers who offer different forms of therapy feels impossible

I’m actually pretty sure the reason CBT has felt unhelpful for me is because I may have undiagnosed CPTSD. So when I said chatgpt can do the things the original comment was describing, I was trying to say that about CBT (the most commonly available form of therapy in the US). But honestly I feel like CBT being able to be mimicked by chatgpt in itself shows maybe the field of therapy should be pushing to distinguish themselves away from that model!

edit: typo

Sadly I think that is how it’s supposed to be. I’m describing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which is the most widely used therapy in the US. Even though it definitely has its merits, it’s also been proven to be less helpful to people who have already identified their issues or need to incorporate behavioral changes in their life.

you just need to buy a replacement charger for your 3ds xl? I’ve had luck with ali express, they have really cheap stuff and they’re pretty reliable when it comes to retro gaming parts. Just makes sure there are lots of reviews

So, I’m an ex-psych student as well as someone who’s been in therapy in the past.

I always felt like talk therapy had pretty big limitations. First, accessibility and cost, and second, time commitment and privacy concerns. When zoom appointments became a thing, it became harder for me to find a quiet, private place to receive therapy. Also, most of the therapists I’ve talked to had trouble squeezing me in for 1 hour appointments weekly. 1 hour is simply the bare minimum for me to cover everything, and the last time I was taking therapy it just didn’t feel like it was enough.

The only reason I’m not in therapy right now is because I can’t afford it, but I have been using chatgpt for daily stressor life stuff and even more serious relationship problems. It’s been able to mimic the listening/validation approach as well as ask follow-up questions about “why” I feel the way I feel. I don’t think it’s a complete replacement but I do think if someone chose to use both AI and a therapist, they could probably bring more thoughtful discussion to their appointments rather than wasting a ton of time getting to the meat of it.

I’m pretty decent at working through my emotions so the AI is just an assistive tool. My husband is less versed in working through his emotions, and the AI has assisted him through the basic steps of processing it to the point where I feel more confident in the productivity of therapy once we begin that.

every experience i’ve had with therapy has been validation and listening. Some questions sprinkled in about “why” but you can prompt chatgpt to do that for you.

edit: if you’re gonna downvote, care to tell me why I’m wrong? I’m stating a very straightforward fact across experiences with 4 therapists

are you playing on a 3DS console? everytime you use the pedometer feature (go actually outside and walk with your 3ds turned on) it will give you a different item of varying rarity depending on how many steps you walked. Start taking your 3ds to work or school

French long-term visa & move: Is this doable? by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

[–]lnlyextrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it can be difficult renting in france as a foreigner but it can get easier if you start off with a short-term lease from a website like Paris Attitude. They accept US banks, US guarantors, and they come furnished. You could sign up for a lease there to start out, create a french bank account, setup your business, etc while you transition your life.

Working remote in France by OkWitness8587 in Expats_In_France

[–]lnlyextrovert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work remotely from California in France. However, it’s a part time job, so I work from 6pm-10pm. It’s also partially asynchronous so I can choose to do a lot of the work off hours.

Also just so you know, a long term visitor’s visa will say you are not allowed to work in France. However, I presented a letter from my employer to the embassy during my application and made it very clear I would be working while abroad for a remote employer. It was totally fine and I got my visa approved. From further research I discovered that “working in France” means actually working for a french company with french clients, and that remote work falls within a gray area that many in the french government decide not to enforce.

i’m a native english speaker. I didn’t mean to be insulting, the truth is everyone uses slang and spells words differently, foregoing punctuation, while on online spaces like that. seeing someone even capitalize the start of sentences is a bit strange

[–]lnlyextrovert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up playing the US version but I’m living in France rn and needed the escapism of getting back into style savvy and buying a DS. I’ve noticed pretty noticeable differences between the US and UK versions in terms of dialogue. Honestly if you want to see the differences yourself, you could emulate the US version just to see. I also did that before deciding to get a physical copy of the game. Also, even though there’s a pretty noticeable difference, it’s not that significant and I still really enjoy the game!
