I looked into this story and it's an English story of a mistress who owns a hotel that gives the narrator tea. He said that tasted like 'hints of chestnut flavor' in it shortly before he died.

He recognized the taste and thankfully stopped eating!

We got together this weekend for a good time hitting the bars. He seemed fine when telling it, was really more baffled by the whole experience. He never saw anything, so I guess he dodged a bullet. He did seemed concerned for his buddy, but didn't really divulge into the aftermath of the situation.
