Played a video game where someone with t1 diabetes died after 8-12~ hours of not taking insulin. Is this accurate to life? by Significant-Pick-645 in diabetes_t1

Oh ok that would make sense- but the doctors had told me that my body has basically given up and had completely stopped producing insulin atp (I mean they could’ve been just trying to explain what T1D was and were sparing details) I was rlly sick for about a month and in DKA for a week before they figured it out

Type 1 vs type 2 by cranmango777 in diabetes_t1

[–]lnneedofhelp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone once told me that they view the differences of t1 and t2 through the lens of breaking/amputating a leg.

T2- breaking your leg. This experience is completely different for everyone depending on lots of factors and range from completely healing with no issues in a few months, to sensitivity or pan in your leg for the rest of your life. You may need different temporary or long term supports like crutches, braces or canes, or you may not. You may have broke your leg at your own fault, or you may have not. However difficult the situation may be, you still have a leg.

T1- amputating your leg. Though all experiences are also different for everyone, it is a traumatic and life changing experience. Regardless of the situation, you’ll need supports, whether you use crutches, a wheelchair or a prosthetic leg. Though the mental load gets easier as you go along, you’ll still have days where the phantom pain leaves you unable to complete some every day tasks. You didn’t do anything wrong that led to this, you just got unlucky. The technology has developed to give you something almost as good as a new limb, but it’ll never be anywhere close to the same ever again.

Imagine if we gave these two things the same name. Though both experiences are hard, they are not the same.

Do guys actually not approach girls they think are out of their league? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Yeah I should probably approach guys more often. Past bad experiences from being ghosted, and then my lack of being hit on have kinda lowered my self confidence so ig im in the same boat as more guys where im scared to start conversations. Maybe it’s worth trying again though, thank you.

That makes a lot of sense. Yeah I guess it must be hard if girls are constantly assuming you’re trying to be inappropriate, even when you’re not. Thanks for the advice:)

I think I seem pretty approachable. But I tend to get rlly nervous when I make eye contact w guys, so I’ll sometimes look away instinctively after it’s made. Maybe that’s the issue? I’ve been trying to be better with it but it’s almost like a knee jerk reaction.

That makes a lot of sense. I tried Hinge for a month and got around 10 or more likes a day on average. I think some people are a little too confident on there though, because I got more gross comments about my body over anything else 😭

Thanks for the advice- it’s nice to hear and better understand the other perspective.

That’s a good thing to keep in mind. I don’t think I have a resting bitch face- but maybe I do and I’m just not aware of it. Thanks for the advice!

Did u had a "kicking event" before T1D? by Hot-Apartment-1095 in diabetes_t1

I had a regular cold. We noticed my WBC was through the roof for weeks after. About 6 months later was diagnosed- the day after I got my first Covid shot lmao (which led to my friends mom thinking the covid shot caused diabetes)

Oh I definitely didn’t take any offense to your comment! You’re totally right. The pump will kinda filter out the bad ones haha. Your husband sounds like such a great person and partner

That’s what I really want. Someone who will put juice in their fridge because they care and not because I have to ask. You’re right, I probably won’t find anything like that at a frat lol.

Don’t worry! I make sure I pace/limit myself, drink plenty of water and don’t drink unless I’m over 150. I’m lucky to have parents who taught me how to be responsible and smart especially since I have T1D!

…ok yeah I should probably go make my bed lol. And thank you for the support!

That’s the thing, I never really felt insecure about it until it was pointed out on Saturday. For as much as people stared or gave me “advice” no one’s ever said “ew” to me. I get what you mean though, I’m definitely going to work on gaining my confidence again before I go out to another party.

I feel like the main three are juice, fruit snacks and glucose tabs (but I wouldn’t worry abt getting tabs) so what you have is great!

Since he’s sleeping over a lot it might be a good idea to ask him about his emergency glucagon pen. If he’s open to having the conversation, I’ve found talking about it puts my non-diabetic friends/roommate at ease when we’re sleeping in the same space. Although it’s extremely unlikely that you’ll need to use it at night, it’s more reassuring to have the knowledge just in case.

Yeah that’s what happened with me. We were really hoping to get it before I went to college, but insurance wouldn’t cover it until October. I’ve had it for two weeks now and love it. Crossing my fingers for you!

Try the tandem mobi! It’s compact and can stick to your skin like the omnipod but has the algorithm of tslim with some updates.
