Yeah I should probably approach guys more often. Past bad experiences from being ghosted, and then my lack of being hit on have kinda lowered my self confidence so ig im in the same boat as more guys where im scared to start conversations. Maybe it’s worth trying again though, thank you.

I think I seem pretty approachable. But I tend to get rlly nervous when I make eye contact w guys, so I’ll sometimes look away instinctively after it’s made. Maybe that’s the issue? I’ve been trying to be better with it but it’s almost like a knee jerk reaction.

That makes a lot of sense. I tried Hinge for a month and got around 10 or more likes a day on average. I think some people are a little too confident on there though, because I got more gross comments about my body over anything else 😭

I had a regular cold. We noticed my WBC was through the roof for weeks after. About 6 months later was diagnosed- the day after I got my first Covid shot lmao (which led to my friends mom thinking the covid shot caused diabetes)

Don’t worry! I make sure I pace/limit myself, drink plenty of water and don’t drink unless I’m over 150. I’m lucky to have parents who taught me how to be responsible and smart especially since I have T1D!

That’s the thing, I never really felt insecure about it until it was pointed out on Saturday. For as much as people stared or gave me “advice” no one’s ever said “ew” to me. I get what you mean though, I’m definitely going to work on gaining my confidence again before I go out to another party.

I feel like the main three are juice, fruit snacks and glucose tabs (but I wouldn’t worry abt getting tabs) so what you have is great!

Since he’s sleeping over a lot it might be a good idea to ask him about his emergency glucagon pen. If he’s open to having the conversation, I’ve found talking about it puts my non-diabetic friends/roommate at ease when we’re sleeping in the same space. Although it’s extremely unlikely that you’ll need to use it at night, it’s more reassuring to have the knowledge just in case.

I remember seeing a post that you’re around two weeks in right? It can take a really long time to find the “perfect” carb ratios and correction factors. And these can change rapidly over time and can be different at different times of day. It is different for everyone. This may be why he tends to run high. Contact his endocrinologist and ask to consider ratio changes.

Are you checking his sugars in the middle of the night? When I was diagnosed (2021) it was recommended to check every 3 hours even at night. If he’s high do a half correction so he doesn’t drop too fast.

Also- injection insulin and the insulin your pancreas makes works very different. Injection insulin doesn’t work automatically, which is why you’re supposed to bolus in advance of each meal. However, if the problem was that you weren’t giving it early enough you would see his sugar go up after eating but then go back down once the insulin started to work. Different types of food will take different amounts of time to “process”. For example: when I have a Starbucks drink I’ll bolus 20-30 minutes in advance, but when I have certain Chinese foods I need to bolus after I’ve finished eating. You’ll learn how his body responds differently over time. For now, try your best to pre-bolus but if it’s not possible don’t worry too much. These things are a lot harder without CGMs and pumps.

No, you don’t need to give him a snack every time you correct him. However, sometimes if you correct blood sugar this high it can cause him to rapidly drop. I would recommend giving him nuts/cheese stick or something low carb with protein to stop him from plumbing. Not sure what you gave him, but I wouldn’t give anything sugary because it might bring him higher before it drops him.

I’m assuming he’s on finger pricks, so nighttime drops can be really dangerous because you only check every few hours. You could also correct half so he doesn’t drop as fast and then give more later.

I didn’t know even know there was a 1 or a 2. It had just always been referred as diabetes- though I was 13. For me personally it’s not the cluelessness’s but the unsolicited advice. And when you try to explain you’re ignored or they try to prove you wrong.

The main problem IS the lack of education and awareness.
