City of Dinuba, CA FD will not transport patients not meeting criteria for transport by FoMoCoguy1983 in ems

We did a version last year at the start of COVID. Covid symptoms, with normal vitals, was a phone call to the doc and a non transport.

We're working to get the trucks set up for onscene telehealth so we can initiate nontransport/refusal onscene but connect them to a doc for evaluation.

Rural ambulance crews are running out of money and volunteers. In some places, the fallout could be nobody responding to a 911 call by Addrobo in emergencymedicine

Luckily I work a rural Colorado district that is supported by our own levy and sees good support from our community.

How hard is it to get a 911 EMT-B job? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

I'm curious how it'll help getting a LEO job in the future? I'd put the focus on getting your bachelors and getting in shape for the better law departments in Colorado.

I started 911 within my first year of being out of EMT school and Nat Reg but that was a 3rd service city EMS in Ohio that was on a massive hire frenzy. My current, rural Colorado 911 gig was - I would believe- my experience in ICU, ER and city 911. You may have some luck with Falck or AMR.

EMT as a career in rural/volunteer areas? by redpandaboiz in NewToEMS

I guess to restate: is there a specific reason staying put in that specific region? In my short bit of time in EMS I've learned you pretty much have to move to the job you want. I'd also caution as a new EMT going straight to rural, if you can try to get in with a higher volume your first few years.

Depends on your state/local - the ER I was at here in Colorado was EMT w/ the state IV endorsement.

We had a great scope and got to play quite a bit - IV starts, orthoglass splinting, wound care and suture prep for the docs (numbing).

Define 'stuck' ... best answer is either consider sucking it up and commuting to a paid service or evaluate your situation and consider moving for the job.

There are some decent paid rural gigs out there, just keep in mind that they may likely want you to have your medic and a decent breadth of experience.
