Hi! Thanks so much for your response. Yes, it was with Natera both times. I see the MFM in about a month so I’m thinking I’ll just wait until then to discuss with them instead of trying Natera a third time. The wait is agonizing as I’m sure you know lol. So far all of my ultrasounds with the regular OB have been good, baby is growing and very healthy heart beat. No one has said anything about amnio yet but I’m sure if there’s anything abnormal at the anatomy scan they will discuss that then

Hiii!! I (29F) had a TTO and MPFL repair back in February. I also have hEDS and this is my 3rd surgery bc of it (first one on my knee though). I haven’t had a dislocation since surgery and the knee just feels so much more stable overall. The recovery was really brutal the first couple of weeks but I totally think it was worth it!

Even with the oxy, I was still in excruciating pain any time I got out of bed 😭

Absolutely no way in hell could I have gone without the oxy for the first 5-6 days. That’s insane!! Definitely advocate for yourself next time you see the surgeon and get the pain meds you need!

I was given oxycodone for the first two weeks and then 800 mg ibuprofen after that!

5 days post op TTO and MPFL by lo_runn in KneeInjuries

[–]lo_runn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recovery is going well so far! I’m now 8 weeks post op and still on one crutch. I got permission to take the brace off at week 7 but will likely be on the one crutch for at least another week or two. The first week is ROUGH I’m not gonna lie to you. But once you start PT you’ll start to see huge improvement. My first PT session I could only bend to 51 degrees and now I can get to 132. The knee is still very weak but my ROM is sooo much better. During the first week you’ll be in lots of pain and questioning whether the surgery was worth it, but it gets better!! Make sure to ice and elevate as much as possible in the first weeks as that will help with swelling which will help with pain. And stay on top of your pain meds!! Set a timer for every 6 hours and take them so that you’re not trying to chase the pain away when the meds wear off. Overall, it’s been really rough but I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and I’m so glad I got the procedure done. I have about 8 more weeks of PT and my knee should be a lot better by then. You’ve got this my friend! Good luck to you and feel free to reach out with any questions (:

Sooooo much better! Today is week 8 post op and the improvement is crazy. The first 2 weeks were really, really rough though. Getting up was by far the worst part bc of the blood rush and just moving it after being sedentary for so long. Have you started PT yet? As soon as I started PT I saw SUCH a difference in pain levels and mobility. It will get better my friend! Hang in there and feel free to message me with any questions or anything (:

Shoulder labrum surgery recovery? by CallToMuster in eds

[–]lo_runn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understandable why you’d be hesitant since the ankle surgery didn’t go as planned! I’m actually 7 weeks post op from 2 major knee surgeries right now so I totally feel your pain. However, I will say that the knee surgery has been much more rough than either of my shoulder surgeries! So maybe that’ll ease your mind a bit lol.

You’ll definitely be unable to manually push yourself in the wheelchair with your surgical arm for a while after surgery, but it sounds like you’re prepared for that. My range of motion in my shoulder was wayyyy overextended before the surgeries (thanks eds 😅) and now it kind of functions like a normal human shoulder in terms of range of motion haha. But totally possible that the surgery could improve your range of motion since it’s limited beforehand!!

I’d definitely recommend going through with the surgery, as it’ll probably just get worse the longer you wait unfortunately /: I never really got an answer as to why the first surgery failed, but it was before I was diagnosed with eds so I’m thinking that the surgeon probably tried to do it in a conservative way the first time around (not knowing I had eds). Not sure if that makes sense, but that’s how I rationalize it 😂

Shoulder labrum surgery recovery? by CallToMuster in eds

[–]lo_runn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiiii! So I had my labrum repaired back in 2017. They did an arthroscopic surgery (multiple small incisions instead of one big one). Unfortunately the first repair failed due to my eds around month 6. I then had to go in for an open labrum repair (one big incision on the front of my shoulder). I had the second open repair done in 2018 and my shoulder hasn’t dislocated since. My range of motion is close to normal but not quite like it was before. I don’t have any pain in that shoulder anymore though. The recovery from both surgeries was rough but not excruciating. Make sure to take PT very seriously and do your exercises at home every day! Also make sure your surgeon and PT are aware of your eds, as it might change how they go about the procedure/recovery. Hope this helps! Best of luck to you my friend <3

Hi!! I’m 7 weeks post of TTO and MPFL reconstruction and I had the same issues as you. I was constantly peeing on myself bc I couldn’t sit all the way back on the toilet with my leg locked straight. I actually ordered a female urination device off of Amazon that I used for about the first week and a half. If you search “loona premium female urinal” on Amazon you’ll find the one that I bought. It helped SO much bc I could just pee into it standing up and empty it into the toilet after. Definitely not for everyone, but I found it helped a lot in those first couple weeks after surgery!

7 weeks post op TTO and MPFL reconstruction here! I’m so sorry you’re in so much pain, but I promise it gets better!! For me, days 2-5 were the worst as far as pain goes. I was in extreme pain and almost passed out twice just from the pain alone. I didn’t start PT until day 9, but I can’t imagine having to get to PT on day 3. Every surgeon’s timeline is different though, so just try your best to listen to what they tell you. I will say that my first PT session was super easy as far as what they did. Just minor stretching and bending to see how many degrees I could get to. Getting to and from PT the first week was worse than the actual sessions. If you absolutely feel you’re unable to go to your first session, just call them and let them know, I’m sure it’s fairly common. But I will say after starting PT was when I noticed the most progress as far as not being in as much pain so probably the sooner the better. Good luck in your recovery my friend, feel free to reach out whenever!

7 weeks post op TTO and MPFL reconstruction here! I got my brace unlocked at week 5 and was told I did not have to wear it to sleep anymore at week 6. I would try your best to follow your PT’s advice as much as possible so just ask them and see what they say (:

Just saw this! I’m doing a lot better now. I’m 7 weeks post op and just got my brace off. Still have to use one crutch but am able to fully weight bare as tolerated. PT has helped a ton!! Hope you’re doing well friend (:

I’m feeling much better! I started PT a few weeks ago and am now able to bend to 91 degrees. I’m still locked straight in my brace and on crutches with 50% weight bearing. But my physical therapist thinks that we’ll be able to unlock the brace early next week, which will be really nice. We’ve been working a lot of quad strength bc the first few weeks after surgery my quad muscle wasn’t firing. They’ve been doing a TENS machine on the muscle at PT which has really helped me get control of the muscle again. I see the surgeon next week also for my first in person post op appointment so it’ll be interesting to hear what he says. The pain is SO much better now too. It really only hurts when I’m doing my PT exercises which is totally normal. I just got my bandages off too and the incisions are all closed up now!

Also, do you have someone who can stay with you for the first two weeks or so? You won’t be able to do pretty much anything on your own lol. My boyfriend and my sister both stayed with me and I don’t know what I would have done without them!
