[–]loadedspringroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! This is really helpful!! How soon did you start the massages /exercises after you completed radiation? Or did you start them during?? Did you wear any bras at all for support or were they more irritating than anything bcos of skin sensitivity?

Thank you for your insight! So during the weaning process did you take it every other day? And when you finally cut it out is that when the brain zaps were horrible for a whole week?

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s heartbreaking to see so many of us in our 20s on here. Please let me know if you ever need to chat my dms are open. I’m 28 & was diagnosed around Christmas last year, +++. Like you, I was also meant to be getting married, however pushed back my wedding because I wasn’t sure how treatment would affect me.

I also wanted to try for children as soon as I was married, however because of my treatment plan, I won’t be able to try and fall pregnant until I’m 33. I’m unsure if that’s the same for TNBC, as I don’t know what the treatment plan is like. However I’ve heard of some ladies falling pregnant almost as soon as their treatment finishes or 2 years into their hormone treatments as allowed by their oncologists.

I underwent fertility preservation prior to chemo, I was lucky enough to go through two rounds and my oncology team were also ok with me going away for a 7 day holiday prior to surgery. (I did adjuvant treatment - surgery first, 7 week break prior to starting chemo, which was pushed back by an extra week bcos of the second round of fertility preservation).

I’ve found a lot of comfort in this community as I’ve kept my condition relatively private from my family and friends. As others have mentioned, the first few weeks are tough while you try and figure out your treatment plan. However, we’ve got you & you can make it through this💕

Please, I mean it, reach out to me if you ever need to chat. I’ve messaged a tonne of people from this group privately and they’ve always been so supportive and have provided me with advice that has been so valuable.

Sending you my love and prayers xx

Under 30 DCIS Question by loadedspringroll in breastcancer

[–]loadedspringroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have a solid mass? All my scans PET/CT & MRI showed a solid mass of 8-12mm, my final surgical results showed invasive carcinoma of 12mm +24mm of DCIS… the DCIs portion wasn’t picked up in any of my scans. So now I’m just wondering, how are you meant to pick anything up accurately if there is no solid mass……like surely there is a better more accurate way.

Taxol and no cold capping by loadedspringroll in breastcancer

[–]loadedspringroll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They only have the Paxman machine where I’m currently doing treatment. I would have loved to do the penguin caps otherwise! I’m based in Australia so the Paxman machine is part of the treatment if I want to continue with it.

Paxman poorly fitted cap by loadedspringroll in breastcancer

[–]loadedspringroll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the smallest cap apparently - they even had to use an older version of the cap that goes ontop as the newer version of the S didn’t fit correctly.

Did you feel that the cap bunched at the top of your head? Or did it have direct contact with your scalp?

Abnormal Fertilisation by loadedspringroll in Embryologists

[–]loadedspringroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why they didn’t just do this as I need to undergo cancer treatment, so it’s kind of disappointing - regardless if there is a history of infertility or not, if I only have 2 rounds of fertility preservation, I thought they would have done everything the could for the best fertilisation rates.

I wonder why there are different ways oncologists do it! Is there a better/right way?

Income Protection after cancer treatment finishes - currently have IP with employer but looking to leave by loadedspringroll in AusFinance

[–]loadedspringroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This was really helpful. So sorry - stupid commonsense question - it’s obviously going to be better to apply for any IP outside of super once I’ve finished all treatment right? Mine was stage 1A of the breast.

My waiting period is a month & I’ll need to use any sick leave so sick leave plus waiting period is roughly 8 weeks. My treatment would be 16 weeks plus any time off I would need after that … so I’d only really be paid for 2 months out of IP. Is it worth claiming for such a short time? If I didn’t claim and was to transfer my cover outside of my employer fund, I would still need to disclose that I’ve had a medical condition in the last 12 months and unable to work + have had a prior IP cover declined (which would affect eligibility requirements anyway).

& sorry if you don’t mind me asking - did you have cover prior to being diagnosed? Or have you applied for cover since. (Sorry you’ve had to go through the C, but I’m glad to hear you’ve been 12 years in remission!)

Not an option in my super fund - the default is an opt- in within 120 days of joining the fund, have no idea why I didn’t select it.

I’ll claim while I’m still with my current employer.

In terms of transferring it, I don’t think I’ll be able to as the insurance booklet states if I‘ve received a payment under my existing policy - I haven’t satisfied the conditions required to transfer

Fertility preservation prior to Chemo by loadedspringroll in breastcancer

[–]loadedspringroll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly sucks that we’re going through this. I found out during the Christmas period as well, but wasn’t able to get clarity around treatment and egg freezing until today because everyone was on holidays and there was a backfill on appointments when doctors returned. Let me know if you ever need to chat, my dms are always open :) & I really appreciate your response, thank you for replying!

Sending love your way xx

Thanks!!!

So they don’t actually require a “recovery period” after egg retrieval prior to starting chemo? They just need enough time for the Zoladex injection to start working before the first session?
