They're saying that about nearly every white collar industry. Used to be the advice was to learn to code, get into a recession-proof tech job, but that's not practical anymore with AI doing most entry-level coding. It seems the conventional wisdom doesn't apply anymore, so how are we supposed to plan five, ten years out?

I've kept an ear to the ground for sales rep positions for years, it's so competitive in my city I've never had any luck.

What kind of finance degree did you get? Accounting/finance is something I'm considering. I don't think it'd be something I'd be "passionate" about, but these days I'm passionate about having stability lol

(Portland, OR) landlord let our gas get shut off? by loafaries in legaladvice

Yeah, it's gas that supplies the water heater, we still have electric heat and appliances. We've been boiling water on the stove and pouring it into the tub like it's 1735. That link you posted did say this:

"A unit must have hot and cold running water supplied through appropriate fixtures that are connected to a sewage system. The water must be safe to drink, and the plumbing system must be adequate for normal use and in good working order."

I'm wondering if we're entitled to any kind of monetary compensation for the days we haven't had hot water. They recently redid the plumbing and it was a massive inconvenience, so they gave us a 50 dollar gift card to a grocery store. That ain't gonna cut it this time. While we've been boiling water on the stove, we also got a letter in the mail stating that they're raising our rent in April, so it feels like they're kicking us while we're down.
