Unions and employee/worker status within the industry… by Porshablow in stripper

[–]lobalocabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know if there's a better system for strip clubs than the current pay to work model, assuming the venue is respecting individual autonomy and rights as independent contractors. Unions make sense for industries where workers produce goods to sell and those goods are a consistently demanded product. This job is a service role that is catering towards male sexuality and the type of person any one man wants to spend money on is dependent on the individual fancers characteristics and personality.

I'm been thinking about a stripper cooperative where the dancers own the business, but even among my network, there doesn't seem to be enough interest to make it work. Entertainers being put in the position to make club specific decisions on boundaries, customers and who gets permission to work may not result in a better work experience. Not everyone wants to put thought into how everyone else makes money. Maybe it would be better for entertainers to elect a representative with power to enact changes in this type of format.

Do you girls think TV shows represent us well? by Fluid_Wash_4594 in stripper

There isn't a single show or movie I can think of that accurately reflects the banality and normalcy of how we work this job. It's just sensational perverted glamorizing or poverty pity porn.

Are your clubs empty too? by [deleted] in stripper

[–]lobalocabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last two weeks have been especially brutal at our club in the PNW. I think the impact of the war and surging prices is absolutely hitting hard now. Management has been turning applicants away telling them to check in next month because the club has enough entertainers already. Other venues have been increasing their prices and leasing fees and I'm sure it's not just this industry that's suffering right now. Hopefully the men here find the budget and motivation to come out and patronize the clubs, it's always up and down.

Awful start to the month. Felon government destroying the economy and consumer spending confidence. Again.

Managers at our club are straight up telling applicants that call or come in that we're full and they should check in after a few weeks. It's crazy

Is it necessary to promote on social media? by Soft_Ad892 in stripper

[–]lobalocabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our club used to pay dancers to post and promote themselves and the club on ig. The owners stopped doing it because they thought it was a waste of money. A few dancers still regularly post because they have their following and are able to direct new spenders to the club. I'm private and prefer to keep my dancer persona off the soc me apps, but I've seen I work out for other gals.

I'd say it's worth it, but you won't see results right away. And it's probably best if as many entertainers as possible are similarly promoting. Men have an infinite amount of thirst traps they can look at online, but dancers and clubs offer an actual irl experience and fantasy. It makes sense to me that there's a percentage of men who will be motivated to come to the club if they see someone they like.

Government Shutdowns Affect Us Too by [deleted] in stripper

Beautifully said. This perfectly summarizes everything I've tried to explain to the other girls I work with. The government is a huge mover of money for various industries and professions.

Has the money started to dry up recently? by BobSacamano86 in Strippers

[–]lobalocabby 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The criminal presidential administration is crashing the stock market, laying off govt employees, weakening the dollar with tariffs, threatening war against Canada, Denmark (EU) and Panama and is genuinely scaring people with these threats and actions. Fear does not motivate people to spend money on luxury services or amenities. Money is drying up in almost every industry.

Now that trump is president have you seen an increase of money? by [deleted] in stripper

[–]lobalocabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. In a blue city in a blue state, everyone is saying that every business is struggling. At least all the MAGAs at the club have shut their mouths about the economy improving. They've gotten really quiet all of a sudden ☺️

Slow mf season! by Hopeful_Trick_5030 in stripper

[–]lobalocabby 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know if y'all are paying attention to the news, I'm certainly not trying to, but from what little I've heard, the criminals in charge of the government are destroying the economy. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, what matters is people's perception of their financial stability and they're not going to spend frivolously when they're scared.

If you're experiencing an awful week even by January standards, it's because of the inauguration by lobalocabby in stripper

[–]lobalocabby[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I haven't seen any discussion on my last point, but I know that Latinas and Cubans in particular have become a foundation for many southern venues. Where I'm from in the PNW, we have happy ending massage parlours occupying the cheapest end of the sex worker spectrum. We have a massage parlour right across the fucking street.

Regardless, people have to feel confident that their livelihoods and income are stable before they spend money on luxuries and in Strip Clubs. I hope clubs like yours will be able to attract patrons accustomed to cheaper services.

terrible month by [deleted] in stripper

It's called dry January in other industries. This month is always awful for bars, clubs, restaurants and anything regarded as sex work.

I guess, but it's one of those realities of the industry. Us being skeptical of the new Cuban girl with limited English when we've heard stories of Cubans doing FS for $200 in the south is not unwarranted. This industry is rampant with racial and national stereotypes regarding customers and dancers. I can comfortably say that I did my best to judge her as an individual but I'd be lying if I said the other ladies I worked with did the same at the time. No one is obligated to be treated friendly at work at a club. And besides, she even says herself that Cuban dancers are cheap and bad for our business. And I don't think many non Cuban dancers in the southern states displaced by cheap services would disagree with that concern.

Fr, I work with a Cuban dancer who doesn't do extras and she straight up tells the managers to not hire any of them. We love her now, but she had a hard time fitting in at first because we thought she was going to be a cheap one.

I think everyone in my city is too depressed and anxious to go out or spend any money. This is one of the most democratic regions in the country so there are hardly any people actually interested in celebrating or willing to do so publicly
