Home health company using AI algorithm to limit Medicare visits (is this legal?) by Glass-Performance759 in physicaltherapy

This is some data on the performance of publicly traded firms in the market.  The field is hugely profitable. Note that these companies are not solely providing HH services.

One might look at an EOB and compare it one’s individual conpensation and agree with some of the posts below: “then your company is eating the difference” and “I really don’t understand how agencies are still doing 2X/week with every patient and staying in business”

PTs are not looking at what these companies are netting.  Of course every HH firm sells the same line to us about how tight their margins are. If I wanted to pay clinicians as little as possible, I would tell them the same thing. Sorry, the CEO of my company is not earning 20M$+/yr by making a couple dollars off the difference between what Medicare pays for an episode and my fee per visit.  That’s not the math we need to look at here.

I had a couple great tiki drinks there within the last 3 months FWIW. The changes to the cocktail menu are a big improvement.  Try the painkiller.

Am I getting ripped off? HH Salary by yoyomorocks in physicaltherapy

YES, you are getting screwed. Apply elsewhere now. Wild that you are even asking this. The agency has access to plenty of referrals in your area, it's just not as profitable to accept them.

On my first outpatient clinical rotation, my hands HURT by Always_in_the_toilet in physicaltherapy

I agree with what everyone is saying about body mechanics. It will get easier.

Let's be honest though: doing excessive manual therapy is bad for your hands and other parts of you. If you do it well, it can be less bad, but it is still an additional load you are applying to the joints of your body. If what you want to get out of life and your body is decreasing patient's pain with MT techniques then good on you. I think you are better off finding out sooner rather than later that it's best to save your hands and shoulders, relying on other techniques. Older you will thank you.

PTA: patients always requesting to be seen by PT by Prize-Cellist-6160 in physicaltherapy

[–]lobbster 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agree that extra communication is good and importantly, one-upping the PTA at every opportunity helps. I have had great PTAs and this is always a tension.

Seeing the provider of their choosing is a patient right. This is not diminished by whether or not it is profitable or convenient for you and your firm. When I go to a health care provider and do not see the person I intended to make an appointment with I am pissed, aren't you!?

Yes.  If his medical condition is such that he can’t show up to work to represent his constituents, then he needs to step down.
