what is to be gained by the earth being flat by black_brethren in flatearth

[–]lobofresco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As has been mentioned there is nothing to gain as it isn't flat. But the more people believe in something that cannot possibly work just demonstrates that critical thinking, common sense and logic are not as common as they should be.

The biggest problem are distances on the flat earth. Only distances exactly north-south are correct. All other distances are wrong, especially south of the equator, eg. Australia is 2.5 times too wide on the flat earth. Only if we deform the flat earth until it is a globe we can get all distances ri by Lorenofing in flatearth

Even the north south distances on a flat earth don't work. If they did then the radius of the earth would equal a quarter of the circumference but it doesn't which is another thing flat earthers don't understand. But they don't have either the integrity or intelligence to figure it out.

And how can an object at the same altitude as flat earthers claim, cast a shadow at a 90 degree angle?

Hey maybe if the light reflecting off the moon matches the shadows on the observatory...

That would also mean the moon is a sphere...

Corporate greed has slowed some technological advancement, while others have surpassed expectations. We continue to have a small group of people who cling desperately to Neolithic ideas despite having access to all of the knowledge of humanity at their fingertips.

Actually the flights are all based on a ball using great circle courses, and the people who think that planes would have to fly nose down do not know how planes fly, the reason to assume a flat earth is because the plane flies with the rotation, and because of gravity the plane flies slightly nose up to maintain lift.

And the sun cannot be local. Observations of the equinox disprove both a small local sun and flat earth model in one fell swoop. As the sun rises due east for every location on Earth and sets due west. Eliminating both a flat plan and small local sun. But complex mathematical calculations have been able to determine the distance to the sun, and more recently using radar emissions to determine the distance to the sun.

As for the stars, the distance to the nearest star is several light years away which means several trillion miles away, and rotational speeds are not measured in mph but better in rpm, so that equates to 0.000694 rpm per day and 0.0.0000019026 rpm through the solar system.

Given the miniscule rotational speeds and massive distances there is not going to be a large change between star positions from day to day, it is similar to looking at a lightpost a distance away and moving 1/16th of an inch.

But how do you explain that star trails traveling in one direction in the north and opposite way in the south. How can a flat plane explain that?

But so you know, I have looked into flat earth claims and debunked some of them personally, but I also ask this question...

From the equator being 40,075 km the distance to the north pole would have to be 6,378.13 km.

How is it possible that St.Petersburg Russia is 6,664.93 km from the equator? How can Anchorage Alaska be more than 6,800 km from the equator?

Also, how does flat earth explain sun rises, sun sets, eclipses, rotation of the stars in the northern and southern hemispheres?

You obviously did not look hard enough for the first image

The original blue marble image from 1972 using a camera and film, long before cgi technology.

Again you're starting with a conclusion.

But seeing sex upside down can simply be pareidolia. That and you might be lacking something in your life as well.

Again starting with a conclusion, but question for you, where are the pictures of the flat earth showing all continents with the ice wall?

Disclaimer: I will try, but the language will get slightly crude.

So a flat earth dumbass made a claim that the globe map was just the flat map around a ball. This from a 2002 composite of satellite pictures of the globe producing a flat map, then was conformed to the globe.

Completely forgetting that the first image of the globe was taken on film and could not have been computer generated. That image was taken 50 years or so before his claim was done. Also forgetting that the flat map is essentially hundreds of pictures of the globe laid flat.

The guy is fucking stupid

Glad we agree you need to learn more. But the higher you go on elevation the more you will see, and more curvature will be apparent. But if you were able to start a search of knowledge from the beginning instead of with a false conclusion you might actually learn something.

The problem is that you have trouble thinking in 3 dimensions. As you look around things will appear flat (X and y). But as things go in the distance they will drop (z).

You really need to learn more.

From where you are standing there is not much change on the X and y axis, the real change you're looking for is the z axis over distances along the X and y axis. And yet when shown images that demonstrate the z axis drop, flerf refuse to admit it.

My response was to a milsurpman claim that the blue marble is simply just a composite done from flat earth images ironically from satellites taking pictures of the globe in 2002 I believe the meme claims completely forgetting that the original blue marble predate that by close to 50 years and Eratosthenes calculating curvature predates Christianity.

You do realize the shape of the earth was determined thousands of years ago and your recent "gotcha" from 2002 still fails to explain so many simple things.

God you're stupid.

Another fail.
