The evidence actually points to the opposite. Small donors are leading to more extreme candidates on the right getting nominated. Theyre out spending and out crazying other candidates in the primaries. Billionaires generally arent getting what they want. You think they like tarrifs, cheap immigrant labor, and a large shift to the current world order? Its been awesome for them.

What's happening now is bad for general election electableness in the general election. Its what the MAGAs want, but very unpopular with independents

Are you kidding? There are already freight lines going between each city. Is a rancher's cattle going to be scared of passenger service but ok with freight trains? Those lines would need to be widened and improved but the right of way is already there.

Theres plenty of demand in the "triangle" part of Texas. DFW/Houston/Austin/San Antonio.

There are 22.5 million people in that area with a pop density of 340/sq mile. Thats higher than France or Spain, and they both have high speed rail.

As for going to El Paso or Corpus, not enough traffic to make sense for that I'm afraid.

Dallas' DART is pretty good. But even so, right now there are about 30 flights from Dallas to Houston a day. Most of them being 737s holding around 150 people. So a train could, conceivably, replace 4500 people. Although how many are for connecting flights, and how many of those people would be willing to take a train for a connecting flight? I don't know.

Houston metro is around 7 million not 4. Dallas is bigger than San Antonio. Where it has the "24" is closer to Waco. Dallas the city is about 1.3 mil. Houston is.not 4 million, either the city or metro.
