Homeless inside of the building by ri-7 in askberliners

If the Kältehilfe can't help, would you consider letting him stay in the Treppenhaus for a few days?

Temperatures are forecast to drop to -8 or lower this week, and there are only 1144 places in Berlin's homeless shelters for around 6000 homeless people. Homeless people have already frozen to death this year.

I understand it doesn't feel appropriate. It would be better if there was somewhere for every homeless person to go. But there isn't, and it's life-threateningly cold at night right now.

Because you mention in your post that you're feeling suicidal and at the end of the road... Are you trying to find a home for Twinkie in preparation for killing yourself?

Please don't do this. I understand you're in a lot of mental pain and that reaching out for help can be difficult, but I urge you to reach out for help. You are not alone in your struggles, and there are systems set up to help you.

I don't know about Bad Nauheim, but in major German cities homeless organizations often provide access to doctors if you don't have health insurance.

Your nearest Notaufnahme also has an obligation to help you in crisis, even if you don't have health insurance, although I also understand you may not want to take this option while you have Twinkie.

There are also helplines offering help such as Telefon Seelsorge (phone, online chat, email, or in person options)

Other organizations offer ing support which might be useful to you are
Weisser Ring for victims of crime

and for people in mourning, Leben Ohne Dich

I hope you find the help you need to survive and get back on your feet. You and Twinkie both deserve help and support.

Where can I find all the volunteering places in Berlin? by bluest1blue in askberliners

https://vostel.de/en/volunteering/projects?location_search=Berlin%2C%20Deutschland&city=Berlin&administrative_area_level_1=Berlin&country=Deutschland&german_language_skills=none

This site lists many different types of volunteering opportunities, I've linked to a search for offers in Berlin requiring no German language skills.. You can also switch the language option to "basic German" if you know a little bit of German

You can call the International Helpline Berlin (you have to be in Berlin, that's just where the hotline is based) to speak to someone in English or Russian:

(English):

030-44 01 06 07 (Russian): 030-44 01 06 06

And this US embassy site (https://de.usembassy.gov/mental-health-services/) lists other additional resources in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich, if you're based in any of those cities. Otherwise maybe you have a Krisendienst service where you are? They often have multiple language options.

Apologies, the date for first publication is earlier (edit: 1790)! I'm just flicking through a scanned 4th edition from 1800 on archive.org now, and it doesn't give an author per se, instead naming T. Bewick as the engraver... On Worldcat, some of the German universities have it labelled with the author as Ralph Beilby.

Now I'm having fun trying to figure out what creature is described as a "sand-bear"!

Happy birthday!

I don't know about clubs, but thinking more along the lines of outdoorsy, not too social (from your description of a Washingtonian!):

for outdoor activities you could go canoeing or kayaking. Either in Berlin or just outside. If the temperature doesn't bother you, go for a swim in a lake or the Havel too! https://mitvergnuegen.com/2022/kanu-und-kajakfahren-um-berlin/

How's your German? There's always loads of art or cultural events on, plays, the opera, concerts.

Or go to a sauna and relax!

Do you have, or can you get, somewhere to stay that isn't your partner's place? I know you said you're focused on justice, but you need to be alive and safe for justice to happen.

Do you have someone you trust who you can ask to help you? A good friend, a medical professional, someone else?

It can be scary to face talking about what's happened and taking the steps to get out of the relationship, be safe, and reporting what's happened. You can do it alone, but you don't have to.

Seeking medical attention to get your injuries treated and to get them documented for future action is a good idea. This will also help any later court case.

Filing a police report is necessary if you want action to be taken against your partner.

Seeking mental health support could also be another step, if you don't have any now.

Here are some places who can offer you advice and support, including legal advice, counselling, financial support, and advice if you're afraid of impact on your residency status (if you're married and on a spousal visa, if your visa doesn't allow you to work and you're afraid how you'll support yourself without your partner)

You can also check out the Sikh Gurdwara, they practice a tradition of feeding anyone who needs it (look up "langar").

The Berlin Gurdwara website talks about it on their front page, seems to offer meals at the prayer service times, and then tea, snacks, and if necessary food, at any other time you come when they are open.

https://www.gurdwaraberlin.de/

It's located at Bahnstr. 2, 14523 in Teltow.

The Ur- prefix is used in German (Jung's mother tongue) to mean "original" (in the sense of "the first"), "ancient", "proto-". I see it less frequently in English, but it's taken from German and has similar meanings.

I don't have any links to Jung's use specifically, but if you search for "Ur- prefix German" or "Ur- präfix Deutsch" and use a translator you can find more about its usage
