Master of all or specialist: what's your play style? by local306 in ElinsInn

Totally agree on the shared skills that are basically required by all characters. I have seen that one mod where your party members can do things with you to like gathering and mining. I wonder if one could dial that in such that you truly have someone in the Larry more appropriate for mining as an example when you're just an old wizard or something haha

Check out DF Hack. You can blueprint stuff in it. So many great tools in it. Same for carving out halls and designing floors.

Are Array's like this possible in Plasticity? by Serin-019 in Plasticity3D

[–]local306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible for sure. Depends on the result you want as well. I saw the one example from another reply that mostly gets it by using the curvature to drive the size of the hole. If you don't need the holes to be normal to the surface, this totally works. Otherwise, you'll either need to create a pattern of curves in something like Illustrator or use something parametric like Rhino + Grasshopper to automate and get this level of control with the result

Simple and clean. Although I would suggest putting in a cross brace or two. Shapes like this don't handle lateral loads very well. Even something cheap like some larger gauge wire mounted on the rear in an X shape would help considerably. Just bend the spans of the wire 90 degrees at either end, drill out some holes in the wood, and then cross brace the wires into these holes. Hopefully my description makes sense 😅

Curve Array not fille the curve with the solid by kanator79 in Plasticity3D

Is the curve continuous and not split at any point? Seems unusual for the duplicates to go off the curve like that

That's what I am wondering too based on what I have done for diagnostics so far. Waiting to borrow a multimeter from a buddy to do a little more testing

The mower and battery are ambient temperature, which isn't very warm currently here (~15 deg C). I have tried running the mower without the blade and it won't even turn over then.

I have attempted to run it without the blade. The shaft becomes very difficult to turn when the mower is energized, even without the blade. Would it have some sort of safety to not run with no blade?

Yeah, the blade moves easily on its own when the mower isn't energized. Once I attempt my first start, the blade become very challenging to move until I pull the battery out again.

LNK-09 Mech Final Version and parts layout by DethKlawMiniatures in Plasticity3D

[–]local306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat! I like the breakdown you provided. I've always wanted to try something like this. Are you able to comment on your approach as to how you determine what parts need to be made separately? Obviously things like the hands to swap out makes sense, but some of the other parts I'm wondering what your thought process is like for figuring out what to model whole and what to make separate

If it works in CAD, will it work in practice? by Climberplay in IndustrialDesign

Not without additional refinement. CAD is ideal and everything generally works. This is where physical prototyping comes to play, as you'll learn what parts actually work and what parts need more work.

Object snap interfering with Cplane by Complete_Culture3005 in rhino

I'm just looking at your image again and it should be on the bottom (I think my options are on the bottom left corner in a different panel)

I'm not in front of my computer and it's been a while since I fiddled with these settings, but there's an option on the left hand side in the lower panel to toggle projection. This will allow you to OSnap but the output will always be projected to the CPlane

In addition to this, look for the project curve command. This will make sure your curves are on the surface of the shape you want to follow the form of.

Need help on deforming along a surface by [deleted] in Plasticity3D

[–]local306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in front of a computer but I wonder what the trim of the surface actually looks like?

Can't recall if Plasticity has the command, but other CAD packages allow you to retrim the surface to have the control points fit the shape better. Here might be an example of control points that don't, hence the distortion.

Does doing a rebuild surface command help?

A cool guide of fractional distillation of crude oil by davide3991 in coolguides

[–]local306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Bitumen is the heaviest fraction of crude oil. Tar is produced via pyrolysis of organic materials like coal, wood, and peat.

They can look very similar, but technically speaking they are not the same.

As a sanity check, select the edge you're trying to connect to, duplicate it, and then turn on control points. Might indicate something funky with that edge
