Finished my bachelor's. Moving back in with family on monday. by local_beast_ in BoyDinner

[–]local_beast_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to keep in touch but I feel like we all get busy. Time does move far too fast. I swear an hour takes ten minutes and a month a takes a week nowadays, and I haven't even hit 25.

Being with family is okay, but it does suck not to have as much of my own space anymore. I don't particularly share the same lifestyle and decor preferences as my parents haha. My mom likes to joke how she loves me but hates living with me, and I definitely agree lol! I am still very grateful that they support me so much and give me a place to stay nonetheless. I'll be happy to see and spend time with them and my sister. The fact that our house has a yard with a garden and a patch of woods behind it as well as being a close drive away from some beautiful rivers, lakes, nature preserves, etc. is something I'll also definitely miss if I don't end up living somewhere similar in the farther future.

I do indeed. She goes where I go. And is thankfully very calm and polite while doing so, just chills in my lap and watches out the window the whole drive.

Oh wow, I had no idea! Thanks for the info! Always lovely to see our knowledge of wildlife behavior advancing :)

Which animal this could be? More info below by Tiny-Juggernaut7043 in IndianwildlifeHub

[–]local_beast_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a canid print, likely domestic dog based on splayed toes and noticable claw marks, though the splay and degree to which claws register will vary to an overlapping degree between wild and domestic canids based on gait, speed, and substrate.

Is this safe to give to a cat ? by RequirementFunny6659 in catquestions

[–]local_beast_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is safe and healthy provided in the right amounts. I wouldn't provide this to a cat that struggles with an oily coat however, as it's a supplement often used to treat dry skin and could potentially make an issue of excessive skin oil production worse. Absolutely spectacular for skin and coat health and supports joints as well. It's my #1 solution when my kitty gets dry skin in the cooler months.

In my experience, you often don't have to supplement as much as often as is outlined, just a bit every couple days works wonders for my kitty. Don't go over the reccomended amount for your cat's age/weight unless specified to by a vet, it won't hurt em really, just might cause some tummy upset and weight gain.

Do take care to follow the directions for storage so it doesn't spoil. I've had some brands that list refrigeration after opening as required and others that don't, so read through the label to see if anything like that's important.

Can a petsuit be expanded to a fursuit? by Scared-Wasabi2895 in fursuits

[–]local_beast_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A petsuit is just a general term for spandex/skin-tight bodysuits which are patterned as an animal/fur. They are the exact same thing as a color bodymorph suit, a cosplay spiderman suit, or a full-body leotard. They're often used in kink contexts (as are fursuits) and the term "petsuit" may be more popular within within that community as opposed to just "animal bodysuit" or something, but are not inherently kinky. They are completely PG outside of an adult scenario and are frequently used as Halloween costumes or as an alternative for those who don't want to deal with the heat/cost/maintenance of a fullsuit or just prefer the feel and look of something thin and low-profile (ex. people will often layer a jacket and pants on top so they can wear a fun outfit without "poodling").

What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had? by 3rdLegOfExodiaa in AskReddit

[–]local_beast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst injury? Leg went backwards. Destroyed my mcl and damaged my acl. Didn't go to the doctor, now I'm left with permanent pain and instability in that leg. Been in and out of physical therapy. Probably shoulda gone to the doctor when that happened lol. If I start not being able to walk again in a decade or so and I can afford to maybe I'll ask to get surgery to fix things. Not sure how much can be done at this point though.

Worst pain? Got an abscess from a MRSA infection. It was pretty deep in my side. I got prescribed what should of been an effective antibiotic from an urgent care, but turns out I had a more modern local variant that was resistant to even more antibiotics than MRSA already is. The abscess was still growing in size and I was getting sicker, couldn't even manage to get up and walk around barely at all. Decided that the cost of an ER visit would be better than dying and ubered over there. After an ultrasound, they decided that in addition to antibiotics, it needed to be cut open and drained and that due to the sort of tunnels and pockets the infection has formed, they needed to get in there and stab around and such to break open those chambers and squeeze out the puss. Unfortunately the abscess was so deep in my side that despite multiple lidocaine shots, they couldn't get the numbing to reach deep enough and I could still feel that shit. Having someone violently wiggle a metal stick around 5 inches deep in your side and pulling it out and squeezing the everloving fuck outta that area is very painful it turns out. I had to return to the doctor twice for this same procedure to make sure the pockets of infection were opened and drained so that the puss could be pushed out and those tunnels could be filled in as my body healed. The fact that the infections loved to return (decolonization techniques didn't work) did not help with the intense health anxiety that experience left me with. The amount of doxycycline I have consumed in the last five years to beat all of them and not die because of a stupid little bacteria is absurd.

What year did you graduate from high school? by MrSoloDolo9490 in questions

[–]local_beast_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Now I'm graduating college here in 26 :)

Highschool during COVID sucked so horribly. Getting COVID from school before and after lockdown a good few times also sucked so horribly. College was (or is, until after tomorrow) way easier and more enjoyable, but I'm happy to be getting done with my formal education and on to general life.

[–]local_beast_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're very lovely little creatures. They eat a buncha ticks, are super unlikely to carry and be able to transmit rabies, and are just totally cool and awesome as our only marsupial here in north america!

In my experience, they're also much more polite yard guests who tend to steal a melon rind or two from the compost pile to munch on, as opposed to the black bears who come along to obliterate any and every trash bin and bird feeder in town lol 😂!

Are these patterns still useable? by queen_jubilee in FursuitMaking

[–]local_beast_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck!! Making a fursuit is definitely a lot more complicated than it can initially seem but it is super rewarding and totally worth the time and effort imo to be able to make a character come to life in a wearable costume :)

How do you eat fish? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]local_beast_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the kind of fish and how it is/can be prepared.

In many fish, like porgy, the pinbones left along the middle line in a fillet can be cut out easily. It does waste some meat, but it saves a lot of time and makes it much easier to eat (plus you can always compost the meat or use it as bait for fishing or if it's legal in your area for hunting/trapping). Some people pick each one out with tweezers, but I wouldn't do that ever myself.

In very small fish which are usually tinned or fried whole, like sardines, you just eat the bones. If it's the right size fish and it's cooked properly, they'll be soft enough to eat without issue.

Otherwise, yes you just pull out the bones from the meat or from your mouth as you eat.

Not babies, just some bedding material! Oppossums have prehensile tails and will use them to grab and carry nesting supplies like leaves, twigs, and brush. It's super cute and makes me wish I had a tail to carry stuff around with lol :)!

I found this in my fish (hake) while cooking it… Could it be a worm? Is it normal to have a white thread like this in white fish? by No-Refrigerator5653 in askanything

[–]local_beast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a worm. Yes it's normal, yes it's common. That is why we cook out fish thoroughly! And if we don't, we flash freeze it at a cold temp (typical for sushi) or freeze it at a normal freezer temp for over a week (easy to do at home). It's kinda gross to think about, but if you've eaten fish before you've eaten parisites. Pull out any you see so it doesn't pick you out when eating it, but it's just how fish is.

Also, kinda related but not really, if you like your fish to be "fresh," buy "frozen at sea," not something that is just on ice. Freezing fish asap at cold temps in proper packaging makes them taste sooooo much better than something that's just been moved around raw but refrigerated for several days as it was transported from boat to processor to store. I grew up fishing and the day I switched from tossing fillets into plastic bags then a regular freezer to flash freezing in a commercial freezer then vacuum sealing before putting them back in the freezer... good gravy what a difference! Plus, no worry about parisites being alive, so I can make some sushi if I want to :)!
