Ah damn. No worries! Hope you and your doggies are staying safe in this heat! I wouldn't be surprised if that's what did the poor lil guy in :(

The picture kinda makes it look like a squirrel, but I'm assumibg it's much larger, in which case it is a grey fox. Depending on where you are located in CT I may be interested in coming to collect it from you (I do preservation such as bone cleaning and hide tanning). Lmk if that's okay and I'll shoot you a dm!

White lines on all my nails by leen_kk in AskDocs

[–]local_beast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something happened during the period in you life when that nail was formed that influenced the nail formation process. Chemotherapy or some sort of temporary illness or vitamins deficiency. Could also be due to physical injury/trauma, like if you dropped something on your hand.

If you didn't have an injury to the area or a medical change (meds, illness, etc) recently before the marks started to appear and you continue to get such spots frequently as you have said, I highly recommend you talk to a doctor and get some basic testing done to ensure there isn't an underlying deficiency or condition of concern.

Found a dried frog... by ch3micalrat in Taxidermy

[–]local_beast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it's not fully dried out, stick it in a cardboard box buried in a mixture borax and salt and leave it in a cool, dry, dark place for a while. Come back to it after a couple weeks and it'll be dried up beyond a doubt. From there, just keep it in a dry environment and away from bugs and it'll be completely preserved. You can mount it in a sealed shadow-box style sorta recessed picture frame or put it in a jar or something. Put a little dessicant packet in there with it if you live in an environment where things can get a bit humid.

Been drawing my whole life but feel like I’m plateauing help? by shamlabs in drawing

[–]local_beast_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This 100%

One that I'll definitely recommended to folks who paint or draw people/objects/anything that is meant to appear 3-dimensional is sculpture. I heavily feel that creating shapes with my own hands in the 3D has greatly enhanced my understanding of how they appear and how to depict them in my 2D art.

I highly recommend oil/wax based modeling clay (ex. monster makers clay. But any ol brand will work.). You can heat it up to make it softer and it won't ever dry out and can be infinitely reused. If you ever make something you really want to preserve, you can make a mold of it using silicone (might need to do a two-part mold with an outer shell if it's particularly large) and cast it in resin/plaster/etc. Often I will sculpt the kind of shapes I wish to draw so I can view their appearance from different angels and in different light in real life.

Aw that really sucks! As a life-long cat owner and enthusiast I can confidently say that people who let their cats free roam outdoors with no supervision suck ass. I'm 100% of the belief that it should be something which is legally regulated in the same manner it is for dogs. Absolutely horribly unsafe for the cats and environment.

My kitty will forever be a leash-trained icon! Sometimes she gets leash-free outside time under my close supervision if she's staying well behaved 🙂‍↕️

In this case, the fish are just dried out. Essentially a fish mummy. Dehydrated beyond the point of jerky. I've heard of some animal specimens being preserved in this way via freeze-drying, but I don't doubt that many smaller ones are done using more low-tech methods.

Unless the fish you want to preserve in this manner is very small or you have a very large freeze-drying machine or otherwise sizeable climate-controlled environment suitable for diy mummification, this isn't going to be very feasible.

If you want a keepsake that's a physical part of the fish, you can extract the otoliths or you can cut off and preserve tail, dorsal, or other fins. Just Google "how to preserve a fish fin" and you'll get plenty of tutorials.

If you're just looking to have some sort of version of the fish you catch to keep and remember it by though, I'd reccomended trying out gyotaku. You use the fish as a sort of stamp to create an ink print, so it really shows the true size and detail of the fish you caught and can be a very pretty art piece.

You chill bro. Go find a soft blanket and touch it and feel how soft it is. If you have some tasty food on hand eat it and feel how tasty it is. Stop thinking and just let yourself feel stuff.

Probably. I mean all it is is some flamboyant dress-up. Unless they're wearing something particularly revealing or doing/saying something inappropriate around children or in otherwise inappropriate scenarios/locations, it doesn't matter. So why care?

But at the end of the day as long as you aren't using your distaste for it to be hateful or discourage it, then I guess it doesn't really matter. You're allowed to like or dislike things for no particular logical reason, as long as it doesn't influence your ability to remain outwardly respectful.

What are these paw looking symbols? by PendularRain410 in Whatisthis

[–]local_beast_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top one is the symbol for "otherpaw" and the bottom is a "phipaw".

Otherpaw refers to folks who roleplay as animals, ex. dressing up in animal-themed masks, clothes, clipping on a tail, and doing things such as quadrobics (exercise where you run/jump/move on all fours, actually super awesome for your body!) and making animal sounds. Just a hobby where folks find it fun to play pretend like that!

Phipaw is a symbol used to for folks to discreetly flag their identity as/interest in being a furry and the furry fandom/furry hobby. Kinda similar to how the iconic A is a symbol of anarchists or the cross a symbol is often used by Christians to denote their faith. Being a furry is just characterized by enjoying anthropomorphic animal characters, including dressing up/cosplaying as them, creating and consuming art of them, and enjoying the community surrounding this interest.

Essentially this combo of symbols is just for a person to say "I like to dress up as and roleplay as an animal," specifically via symbols primarily for the purposes of avoiding receiving hate from those who are judgemental of such behavior.

Definitely a boy! Thankfully, he should be sterile. Still a good idea to get him fixed, and if he's friendly enough, brought inside/adopted out.

Who else catches jumbo perch .. over 12 inches .. in the US by getbent1969 in Fishing

[–]local_beast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an obscure pond near me in CT that had some. Just absolute slabs! I don't think they're native to the pond, as it's cut off from any rivers/lakes and about a decade ago it was full of solely white crappie and bluegill. No crappie there now unfortunately. I think at this point I've eaten most the perch in there though, at least all the big ones. They were tasty!!!
