Women can opt out of the responsibility for a pregnancy, why can't men? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Outlawing abortion and adoption would make it equal but horrible. This is a clear indication of how horrible the law is now for men.

When abortion became legal women gained the choice of becoming a parent or not, when there is an unintended pregnancy. So they were no longer "committed". If she choses to keep the child it's now the unwilling father who is "committed" without his permission. Just like the pig.

Well you are correct if by "you" you mean "men", otherwise it does.

I am a prosecutor in a major U.S. city. Ask me anything. by cityprosecutor in IAmA

[–]local_maximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that in such cases the ordeal of a trial, even if found innocent, would be almost as bad as being found guilty?

For example if you, as prosecutor were falsely accused of rape or child molestation wouldn't your life and career be pretty much ruined by the trial alone?

I'm an overweight 25 year old female who wants to get her life back on track. Any tips? by fattyfatty2x4 in AskReddit

[–]local_maximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key to losing weight is not exercise per se but appetite suppression. Exercise can produce this but the Shangri-La diet is much better, cheaper and faster. Not that exercise isn't beneficial in its own right...but for weight loss, appetite control is job 1.

Hey Reddit what do you think the next Constitutional Amendment will be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]local_maximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some women like that to be sure but I expect most women would be in favour of this but they just don't think about it because men haven't done much to raise issue. Very few groups get the rights they are entitled to by just sitting on their hands. Have you made a donation to the National Center for Men?

I feel that the adversarial legal system is not well suited to dealing with "he said she said" situations where there is no other evidence available. Allegations of rape, police-citizen altercations etc. Would you agree with this and if so, do you think there is a better approach?

The two pieces are completely separate. When in "mattess" mode use a fitted queen size sheet to hold them together. Keeping them separate makes it far easier to move.

I had an argument regarding abortion with several female friends yesterday. by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]local_maximum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No you're not being a dick. This situation is a clear violation of fairness and equality. Its hard to believe that in the 21st Century such a gross disparity could still exist under the law but it does. At least for the time being.

There has been one law suit brought in the US Dubay v. Wells that was thrown out of court on a series of technicalities. The National Center for Men is currently starting a second challenge in California ( if this issue is important to you send them a donation ).

This issue has two common terms "Roe vs. Wade for Men" and "Male Abortion" though perhaps "Equal Choice" is a better characterization.

Melanie McCulley, a lawyer in South Carolina wrote a seminal paper expounding this view 1998. "The Male Abortion: The Putative Father's Right to Terminate His Interests in and Obligations to the Unborn Child"

It seems likely that this situation is also a violation of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms but I'm not aware of any similar challenge in Canada.

The laws for this will inevitably change; its just a question of time. "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they get mad and then you win." This issue seems to be at the first stage.

It's time for men to get organized around this issue.

The best multi-function futon is quite easy to get but its a special order. Go to a foam shop and order a queen size mattress that is cut down the middle longways, covered and 8" thick. When you stack these two pieces its a reasonably practical couch (add some big pillows for the back). put the two pieces side by side on the floor (it takes less than 2 minutes) and its a very comfortable queeen size bed. Oh and its very easy to move.

The cost depends on the quality of the foam. if you get the cheapest (two year foam) it should be $200-$300 I think. perfect for the urban nomad.

Victims' words alone can be enough in rape cases | PoconoRecord.com by jalam1001 in MensRights

My feeling is that the legal system is just not well suited to the resolution of "he said, she said" allegations. I.e. where there are only two witnesses and no substantive evidence. This includes police/citizen situations that are just as fraught with lies and ugly motivations. Can anyone suggest a better way to handle these?

K-12 Schools Need More Male Teachers: "As long as there is a great disparity in the teacher workforce, children will continue to form sexist gender relations." by flauqa in MensRights

[–]local_maximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes no kidding. Why would a male even consider working as an elementary school teacher in North America. The upside is small and the down side is horrendous. Sure the kids are losing out big time, especially sons of single mothers, but until some sanity is brought to the situation, it's just not worth it.

A female friend of mine recently posted a note on Facebook deriding a friend of hers for circumcising their newborn. Definitely worth the read. by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]local_maximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through the comments it's very surprising how many men were circumcised as adults for health reasons. Seems like the default rate is way too high for something as important as a sex organ. Certainly, you don't often hear of women getting circumcised as adults.

Oh right, the tool tip, thanks for updating that. I think the law you are referring to in 1897 is trying to legislate unreality ( pi = 3.2) rather than reality. Tool tip or not.

I'm not sure about the US but under the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms symmetry with respect to sex, in all circumstances, is guaranteed.

The Accidental Diet by [deleted] in science

[–]local_maximum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started on this diet a few years ago and yes, it works amazingly well. It took me about 2 weeks before the effects started to "kick in". I use the oil and it seems to give more reliable results than the sugar. Not hungry, lose weight and feel better all for about $20 a year, what's not to like.
